Looking for help
Hello to everyone.
I am new to DriverHeaven as I was recently referred by my brother who has found tons of help from people here. I just had two questions that I haven't been able to find answers for elsewhere. First of all, I recently moved and ever since I hooked up my computer, there is a long loading period when I connect to the internet before the window pops up. I haven't made any changes to my connection settings and have had cable internet for years so I can't figure out what is causing this issue. Secondly, I just installed a new graphics card and I noticed in my device manager that my graphics card is listed twice, once with just the name and the other is listed as secondary. It also lists my processor twice. I'm just curious as to why this might be the case. Thanks to all for your help! rogersbj22 |

![]() I'll try the second question first. On the video card, it should have 2 ports on the back and it should be able to supprt two monitors at the same time - Dual Display, if you will. The card essentially has two video processors on there, so it lists both of them individually. On the processor, if you have HyperThread or actually have a Dual Core, it's sort of the same thing. If the system emulates or actually provides two processors, each can be listed and at times configured separately. With Dual Core and XP, you can even assign which tasks go to which processor, if you wish. For instance, you could assign a game to one CPU and your other apps to the other and that way have a dedicated processor for gaming. You could load up Bit Torrent or some other download app and keep its processing from interfering with the processor dedicated to your game, so there is not as much slowdown, etc. Windows XP usually handles that stuff well, but you can tweak it if you want. As for the internet stuff, it may be a proxy server setting, or some such thing, where it's looking for one address but since you moved and the addressed changed, it can't find it. Or if it is a different company with different config, you may need to remove your old software (if you did have to install cable modem or internet software) and install the new stuff that the other company provides. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck and happy computin'!

Thanks a lot. The first was helpful. I don't have a dual core processor, but it may have HyperThread, I honestly can't remember. And you are right about the video card, too.
As for the internet issue, I've had the same ISP for years and have never changed any settings even though I've moved twice, so I'm not sure what could be different or how to fix it. Thanks again for the help! |

You bet. Wish I could have helped on the internet thing. But hopefully someone else can help on that.
