Cannot open pictures or media player

For some reason, that I can't seem to be able to figure out, I cannot open attachments from my emails by simply clicking on the shortcut. I have to same them to the desktop and then view.

Can anybody give me a helping hand?

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 OS.

Thanks

Someone might be able to help if you said for example what program you are using to read your emails?

Thanks for the heads up. I am using my e-mail account through my internet service, which is mchsi.com(media-com high speed internet) I really don't know what type of program you would call it. I never remember having to save to desktop before to view the pics or video's before. It was always click, view.

What does it say on the title of the window?
For example, when you have the program Paint open, the title on the window says (title of file)- Paint.

Well, I will have to wait till morning for that. I am at work right now. I cannot remember exactly what the pop-up window said. All I remember is it says something like cannot open file or attatchment and what do you want to do, I then have to select save to- and save it then it will open.

Are you using Internet Explorer to simply access your emails online? EXAMPLE: You access Driverheaven and have to sign in to see any Private Messages that might have been sent to you.

It's the same type of procedure if you just go to your ISP Website and log in there. Then, you should be able to see your emails right from your browser. It may be that your ISP restricts viewing images and videos without having you download them to your own HD. Although that's not likely with a broadband connection. However, I've never heard of your ISP before so I don't know their policies.

One thing you can check, if you're using IE7, is the settings for Multimedia: With IE7 open, go up to TOOLS and left click on it.

Click on Internet Options

Click on the Advanced tab

Scroll down to the Multimedia section

I have all but 'show image download placeholders' checked.

The problem could also be that IE needs to be updated if you're using an older version as it may be missing some codecs.

Good luck!

Mediacom is the all in one phone, cable and internet sevice here in south Georgia. I go to the mchsi homepage/search page and click email button, I have to log into email and it opens.

Here is what I get.

When someone sends pictures, I click the attatchment shortcut and I get the open, save, or cancel window. When I click open, something flashes n the screen, like a window or something, but then nothing, no picture, no window. I have to click save for each individual shortcut, go to where I save it, view and then go back to email.

Same with videos. I click the open and WMP opens up and I get a window

Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline.
If I save it then I can view.

Just gets annoying. I think it stated when I rebooted with my new OS, Windows XP Pro. I just looked and I have IE6.0.29. Would it help my case if I updated to IE7?

You do know what attachments you are trying to see, right? From people you know...

I advice you to re install the latest windows media player (11) and let it associate all the file it wants with it.
Also make sure the firewall you are using is not blocking the media player.

Yes, the file attachments are usually from friends and family back home in WI. I cannot upgrade to WMP 11, They put up a security on it that detects genuine Windows(SHHHHH)I have to stick with WMP 10.

Look like the same as with upgrading to IE7
