"System Alert!"
that's the name of the spyware/virus or whatever it is that is attached to this computer. At least I think it's a virus or a really bad case of spyware. I've come to that assumption because it's not listed in the add/remove programs list, and I've already ran several different spyware scans using the latest version of adaware, and also have run symantic anti-virus. The damned thing will not come off! The only thing i haven't done is go into the registry, only because i don't know how the registry works. Just wondering if anybody out there can help me out with this one. The only other thing to do would be to format the machine. Although that option would not be much liked on this particular machine.
Aside from that, the computer is running perfectly fine, aside from that baloon popping up every few minutes or so. If you left or right click on the icon, it takes to you some web page asking you to purchase a program called "SpyDawn". Same thing happens if you click on the ballon (shown in the pic below). Give me some ideas as how to clean up this POS thing! I wouldn't be able to check out what you guys ask me right from the get-go as I would not have access to this computer while you guys are giving me suggestions. thx in advance! Below are the pix of what i'm talking about. ![]()

1) Go to the startup folder and make sure it is not there.
2)Install CachemanXP, open it and find the process there (it will appear). Right click and click on Open folder. Locate the bitch. 3) Click Start->Run->type msconfig hit enter. Click on the tab STARTUP. Disable the program. 4)Go to control Panel->Admin Tools->Services If it is also there, locate it, stop it, disable it. Go back to 2. Delete the file(s). 5)Install a good anti virus program, no Norton or Macoffee. 6)Install Opera, use it instead of IE!!!!!! 7)Always check the files you download with an antivirus.

that's the thing, the machine does have Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software installed. neither of the two caught the bugger. It had a whole bunch of other stuff that was caught when i ran Ad-Aware though, but still did not remove that one particular program.

I've seen that before, i've yet to get a single thing on my machine however.
That thing is a bit of a bitch to get rid of initially, but i've found some nasty viruses that appear to move registry keys around randomly while attempting to delete them.
