keyboard & mouse stoped working in Win 2k

hi..i just got my new(Okay technically.. old) 3Dfx voodoo 5 5500.

I tried installing it in my AMD1800+ win2000 system, first i used driver cleaner to remove my Nvidia g-force 4 4400Ti, i shut down the computer, i pulled out my ge-force, and then fitted the 3DFX V5.

I turned PC back on, typed in my system password (so keyboard worked fine) but when it got to windows 2000 the mouse and the keyboard stopped working. I don't think the computer was frozen because when i pressed the case's off button windows said "shutting down".

Anyway, thinking it was my new voodoo5 at fault i removed the card & put my ge-force 4 4400Ti back in. but when windows 2000 came up, the mouse and keyboard still doesn't work!.

Any idea whats wrong? If i boot up win XP my keyboard and mouse work fine! .

sounds like a driver issue, did you try safe mode on win2k? ..you do know that the geforce 4 ti is better than a vodoo right?

humm.. the plot thickens.

just tried starting the PC with win2k again, & now it says:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\winnt\system32\config\system

I tried safe mode & it said the same .

sigh.

oh,.. i do know the V5500 is slower than my ge-force 4 4400Ti. I bought the v5 for this computer i'm using now.. (duron 700mhz).

but i still wanted to try the v5 on my 1800 amd & run some benchmarks. I'll also try it on my bro's p4 3.0Ghz when i get my grubby hands on it soon. lol
