How do you get hidden shares not to show up in Samba?
I use XP and have a habit of making personal shares with a $ at the end so they don't show up and clutter the Windows network browser. Like I'll map a Z drive to //server/dude$ and I can connect directly to it no problem by manually typing it in - it just doesn't show up in the browser because of the $ included at the end.
But, I found out it does show up in Samba when I'm running Suse Linux 10.2 in a virtual machine. It's not hurting anything really, cause it's just a home network, but I would like to be able to learn how to configure Windows so it doesn't offer it to other network systems as a visible share. Anyone know how to do something like that? I already found out how to turn off the Admin Shares that are loaded into XP Pro (C$, D$, E$, etc.) via two registry additions, but I cannot seem to find a solution for other hidden shares. I would appreciate any useful tips. Thanks |
