Some people (me being one of them) have encountered errors with WU.
Look around in their help section. I found my problem and fixed it up nice.

Something is messed up..
I installed my new hard drive today now I can no longer access windows product activation.. This is the screen I get when I try to activate my copy of Windows that is NOT pirated.. Mind you I've never experienced this problem before. And here is what I witness when I go to Windows Update. WTF is going on?? Any help will be appreciated.. |

If that doesn't work I would try deleting any Microsoft internet cookies. |

There's a solution to that problem on WU help section. It has to do either with your clock not being set correctly or something else - I forgot. Try here: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

If you really need a certain update. go here > http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/updates/ they have all the updates listed. I think dling each one individualy would be a big pain in the ass.

Thanks for the help suggestion....
I'm On 98SE, and I thought the error just meant they'd pulled support early. Error code - 80070485 - translated as missing or corrupted cabinet.dll (yes, MISSING) - re-install Windows Installer. Well, it told me the service was already running, and wouldn't re-install. So I broke the package with a suitable archiver, and fired up the MSI file that was inside - RESULT! |
