Windows XP Login Screen Missing
I'm not at all sure how this came about, but apparently, the screen that i click on for my user account *there are three of them* is gone. All i get is a simplisitic window, resembling the login window of the earlier Windows version. I have to manually type my name in and then i will be able to access my account, and do the same to access any others. I am the computer adminstrator on the computer, and when i go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way user's log on or off, i see the "Use the Welcome Screen" Checked marked as well as "Fast User Switching. I've tried turning them off, but the same thing happens. The only modification i've done to the system was to re-organize my "My Documents" and back that up to a CD. Any help here to re-establish the "Welcome Screen" with all the names and their subsequent pictures would be of great help. Thanks.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on and off And enabled the Welcome screen.
That should do it.

Oh S**t, sorry man. I didn't read your whole post.
Make sure your Fast User Switching service is enabled. Run services.msc |

Okay, I did that, but nothing really happens...It just gives me the same thing. I click "restart service" and it shows a progress bar, but when i try to switch users or turn off the computer, i'm still given that window.

Try setting that service to "Automatic" or "Manual"

re
if you use "TweakUI" check "remove welcome screen" option.
run gpedit.msc and go to Administrative Templates/System/Logon.. Always use classic logon - disable it. go to HKLM\software\microsoft\windows NT\CurrentVersion\winlogon... on the right, look for value called "LogonType" modify the value to "1" or if its not there, create a new "DWORD value" then modify its to "1" next go to HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\pol icies... if you see "explorer" click on it.. on the right, look for value called "NoWelcomeScreen" if value = "1" then edit the value to "0". if no "explorer", "NoWelcomeScreen" there then no need to create a new one. exit your registy. reboot. as always, at your own risk. |
