ddd is on a distinguished road

exclamation I cannot uninstall from "add\remove"!

hi all.

Oh Dear!

I cannot even get off of "first base", i cannot uninstall the drivers from my win98se add and remove panel, or with any other "uninstaller" program either, an error messege says...'windows will have to close...illegal action"!

here is the background of my problem.

About a month ago, my motherboard died and took everything down with it and with my limited disibility pension I could only afford limited "new" computer hardwares.

They Gave to me for free an old geforce fx5200, i could see so much smudges on the card that I just knew that they pulled it off of some forgotten shelf. Of course, the driver is 4.14, very very old.

my new motherboard is a sis gx741-mx, 1800 athlon/sempron.
win98se.
my fps, now, in morrowind, is about 20 with an unmodded game, it WAS about 35 when I had the better motherboard and maybe a faster processor.

I bought, real real cheap, from newegg.com a sapphire-atlantis 9600xt 256 ram, "ati" video card, it is lying around yet, as I discovered to my small dismay that I cannot uninstall the drivers/software, in my win98se add and remove panel! Apparently the shop only installed the drivers, in such a way, that they cannot be removed by any uninstall program. I would probably also have some trouble installing the new drivers for my nividia card, but oh to try an ati-type card, oh BOY!
[ugh! manual uninstall of the driver files, yipes! there are so many of them scattered all through windows, maybe the "drivercleaner" program might help, should I buy it or try the free version instead?]

[freestone is asking too if the Effort might be worth it to install the sapphire card. ]

anyway, here I sit with the geforce that works OK for the older games and I hesitate to try to "manually" remove all of the driver files by hand, miss just one and you know....!!

will the free version, or the pro version, of the drivercleaner help me?

Or is there something else that I can try?
Apparently there is no uninstall files that come with the driver package and that is all there was, for this card, windows cannot remove the files installed, thus drivercleaner, or my self, would have to Do It All, remove ALL of the files!

so far i have not found on nvidias site, or anywheres else, just what files are installed, probably a bit different for each driver version.

so here i have driver version 4.14 installed, maybe i will live with that if there is no way!

thanks...freestone

Drivercleaner will get do what you want.

ALso, install that 9600. It's a much better card than the FX5200.
