Newly formatted XP problem

Hey guys,

I have been running Vista since it was released in January, but yesterday I decided it was time for a re-install, lots of files, music and stuff. I decided to install my XP pro because Steam seems to play better on it and I felt like switching back.......anyways.... I reinstalled like normai (clean install) everything was working great for about twenty minutes, then it kept freezing up every 5 mins.....I couldn't even Ctrl+Alt+del!
It didnt matter if I opened up the web browser or searched through my files, everything would freeze up.

Can anyone post some suggestions? thought?
Any information is greatly appreciated!

Well I'll post back...lol.

Same issue still going on,
I re-installed the OS again and it seemed like everything was workiing fine while I was loading my drivers back on and after that.....it freezes up again! So now I'm thinking it must be a driver I keep installing.

System Specs

you werent by chance changing around jumpers for different master/slave configs between the 2 different OS's? maybe forgot to put them back or misplaced them? if there on CS maybe put them to the proper master or slave setting.

I just went through a similar issue that turned out was being caused by massive amounts of dust on the CPU heatsink (among other places, Lol). Originally I thought it was some dirver or software issue, but some compressed air and a small vacuum took care of all of my software issues

With the warmer weather kicking in its probably time to clean the dust out of your machine.

Thanks for the replys guys!

I don't think it has anything to do with the master/slave thing, because first off I have no idea what that is! lol.......I was running Vista and I just deleted that partition, formatted a new one and installed XP Pro.

I will give my comp a thorough cleaning later 2nite, but what I don't get was that my Vista was running fine, but as soon as I install XP everything starts freezing up?! I'm just a little confused.

Well I once again re-installed XP and this time I installed my video drivers, printer, wireless PCI card and when it came time to install some of my nForce stuff I just installed my audio drivers and the usb drivers becuase there was this option of installing some nVidia system drivers, IDE drivers and SATA drivers. I left those alone and my computer has been running fine for the past two hours.
with no freezing.

I'm not too sure if one of those had caused the freezing earlier.

That is a distinct posability.
