Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

My computer has been acting kinda slow for a while and has been randomely restarting every now and then. It didn't happen very frequently so I didn't do anything about it. Well I bought Company of Heroes and it called for at least 512mb of RAM. I had that much, but some was borrowed by the GPU and it still wouldn't let me play. So I got a 1gb stick of RAM and took out my two 256mb sticks. I later found out that the RAM was defective and I got another 1gb stick of a different brand. I put that in, and now it freezes all the time. One time, It gave me the blue screen instead and gave me the message

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Any ideas?

Run memtest. That's one of the first things you should do.

With that, does it give a name of a specific driver .dll?

have you added any other hardware to your computer besides the RAM? does this BSOD only happen when you try and play this game?

IMO, it's not your ram if it's happening w/a different brand memory stick.

How long did you run it for? ~10+ hours is recommended, overnight works well.

Reinstall of the chipset drivers might do the trick.

Also, it would help to post the entire error message (the string of letters and number that follow), it will give a better indication as to what the problem is.

well the BSOD only happened once, and I only got the error message then. I didn't think the numbers and such were significant so i didnt get them. The rest has just been freezing and restarting randomely. It happens frequently when I try to play a game but it also happens when i'm doing anything else, just not as often.

ok, i got the BSOD again while I was trying to install something. The numbers are:

0x00000000A (0x00000057, 0x00000000, 0x804F8E2A

My handwriting sucks though so that E near the end might be a B. I tried to look into my chipset and I can't figure out what chipset I have lol. I have A storebought comp, and my processor is AMD. Does that mean the chipset is AMD?

Thats not good. This is caused when kernal data can't be read into memory becasue it wasn't in the page file.

Run memtest overnight, as that is the hardware you replaced. How about the hard drive, have you run any tests on it? May want to reset the pagefile to see if that fixes anything.

If you're getting Kernal errors though, that can be a pretty bad thing. If you can do so, back up whatever you can right away.

edit: Here is the MSDN article

Good luck.

almost always that is a hardware problem, could be with the system memory, either the DRAM config or DIMM voltage settings...
the system power supply is unstable and the supplied volatges of DIMM, CPU or chipset has reduced during the system under full load.
anyway, you may also want to verify that the system is not having unstable software.

well, i put the old RAM in (the two 256mb sticks) and it works flawlessly. I still have both of the 1gb sticks, i haven't returned them yet. So everything works fine with my old RAM, but I still can't play company of heroes.

You can't play CoH when your computer is crashing constantly either.

Get rid of the memory and get it replaced. With memory, its doesn't hurt to buy decent quality stuff. Don't need the best, but the mid-range stuff is the way to go.

a not too faulty memory modules can be concealed with just a little DIMM voltage increased, and your motherboard is probably already has a few hidden DIMM voltage to make it more stable. this could be the reason why the Windows system can still booting and loaded. it's best not to keep using the modules.

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL

Howdy, just build a computer here are the parts:

Processor Intel Q6600
MOBO ECS NF650iSLIT-A
RAM 2Gx2|CORS TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX
HD WD Caviar 320GB SATA (WD3200KSRTL)
PS Thermaltake W0106RU 700W
Graphics VGA GIGABYTE GV-NX96T512H-B 9600GT
System Windows XP Profesionalx64

While I was trying to install I got this message, and through many reboots I finally have windows installed. However I'd say about every 5-15min I get this message (same as when I was trying to install):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Make sure hardware is installed properly.

If problem continues disable or remove newly installed hardware. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing...

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0xFFFFFADFC93FE7EB, 0x0000000000000002, 0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF8000105D467)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question is amazingly: What's wrong?

As a side note, windows will only start if I have 2GB ram in. It will not operate with all 4GB in.
