Problems after windows update
Ok, just reinstalled WinXP pro on a formatted drive. I download SP1 and all the windows updated, then I turn my PC back on and I have an extra user on here-- named ASP.NET Machine A..... --Before I reinstalled windows I got the latests updates and the same thing happend, so I deleted that user- but had all kinds of weird problems after that.. So does anybody know what it is and if I can delete it?
Also at the same time that happened - when my computer boots up it asks me to loggon no matter what, I had it so it would just automatically log me on before-- ALSO when I hit 'ctrl-alt-delet-- to get to the task manager- I get a "windows security" labeled box with logon info and buttons to go to the task manager- I want it to go right to the task manager when I hit 'ctrl-alt-delete' When I goto start/shutdown, same problem!-- I don't get the regular 3 button screen anymore, I get a box with a pulldown list asking to choose what to do.. I think these are all related to the same thing.. I need to know how to get it back to normal-- PLEASE help me do that- and get rid of that "ASP.NET Machine A..." user too- I just don't want to screw up and start all over again-

That forced login thing is caused by the .NET Framework 1.1 update. If you uninstall that it will go back to the normal type bootup where it just says "Welcome" then proceed on to desktop without any input from you. I just figured out the .NET framework one recently myself. It can be removed through add/remove programs.
As far as your other problems......maybe someone else my know the answer to those. |

Oh, ok thanks Rayder
I wonder if you can get around this whithout uninstalling the update? So that stupid "ASP.NET Machine A..." user isn't normal then? It happend the last ime I updated too, so I figured it was something having to do w/ .net updates or something too. I dunno-- Microsoft is starting to piss me off--

For your log-on log-off problem go to [control panel] [user accounts] and make sure the 'use the welcome screen' is checked.
Also here's how to enable/disable task manager for users although I don't know how you've disabled it. [Start] [Run] [Regedit] Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below. Data Type: DWORD Value // Value Name: DisableTaskMgr Setting for Value Data: [0 = Enabled (Default) / 1 = Disabled] Exit Registry and Reboot Good luck!

The only problem now is that I have to log in on start up- I want auto log on. I still have that user on here too, "ASP.NET Machine A..." that appeared after one of the updates- and it did before when I applied the same update before I reinstalled windows, so I know it's a windows thing.

I don't have WinXP Pro but, I think you can fix it by doing this. Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Componet Services>Users (I believe there should be one called users). In there there should be that ASP.NET account -- delete it and restart.

Yeah, I did that last time It appeared there (a few days ago, aster a windows update)-- then my windows installation fell apart-- not because of that- but it did still- I'm gonna try this http://www.earthv.com/tips_detail.asp?TipID=44 first and see if that works. I still want to get rid of that account though- I think it's BS that Microsoft updates install accounts on your computer though-- it's just messed up- no matter what the reason is.

When you install WinXP Pro it puts a few 'BS' accounts in there. I remeber seeing them when I was fiddling around with the Corp. Ed,

That's funny. I have the newest version of .NET framework installed (1.1.4233) and I have no problems.

Where would this extra user appear? I don't see it on my welcome screen or any other user lists.

So is mine but I don't feel like messing wit it.
EDIT: Ok, deleted Administrator cuz I don't need it and also I did notice the ASP.NET account in user accounts and deleted that also. BTW, no problems after restart Last edited by -={420}=-; Apr 21, 2003 at 03:21 AM. |

Well it's not much of a problem as much as just the hassle of removing it. Yes M$ is pretty full of sh¡t! But it could have just been a bug. Oh, BTW does anyone know what this does:
