No net after Windows Update

Gentlemen (and Grace)

I know that I've seen something about this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it here.

I bought an older Sony Lappy for the wife, and I'm using the system restore CD to get it back to the original setup, and then updating.

Now all goes well until I do the updates for IE7. At that point, for some reason I lose net access. When I try, it just sits there 'connecting'.

ICan anyone help, or point me to somplace that can?

Have you tried turning off the Phishing filter yet?

Additionally, go ahead and clear the browser cache to see it that helps.

I'm suggesting these because you don't report that you get an error message indicating no Internet connection.

Finally, try to do a Repair on the connection.

Well, I actually DO have a net connection, as it notifies me that there are MS Updates, and they will D/L and install.

It's just IE7 that won't connect...really strange.

Now, if I go into add/remove, and remove IE7, it connects just fine.

I guess I need to search thru tthe MS knowledgebase as see what I can find.

Assuming that you're using a LAN connection, try this:

Open IE7, click on Tools

Then select Internet Options

Click on Connections

Click on Lan Settings

Make sure there are no checkmarks in any of the options.

Good luck!

check out this IE 7 documentation, the release notes for IE 7 ( Release Notes for Internet Explorer 7 ) which contains information about known issues and possible workarounds for those issues.
