Ben_UK is on a distinguished road

??? Installing a printer...

Hello,

I am trying to setup a Canon S520 printer with a USB connection

The system is AMD, Duron 750Mhz, Abit KT7A and 384Mb RAM

Running Windows XP with service pack 1 and all windows updates. Also using the latest VIA chipset drivers.

The printer works fine with parrall port, just wont work with USB

Says it unable to detect it, windows says "unknown device"

Using latest drivers from Canon site.

Also the printer works fine on my system with USB so the cable is working.

USB ports work fine with mouse

Any ideas lads ?

Thanks

So when you say Windows shows it as an unknown device, is that on the bubble that pops up in the bottom right beside the clock?

Does the install wizard pop up after that asking how you want to search for the driver?

Seperate idea...

Some usb devices require the driver to be installed and the device connected after the driver install. Have you tried it that way round?

System Specs

usually when u plug a usb device in XP will detect it with a balloon and automatically try and load the drivers. The cannon drivers should have the USB drivers included with the driver package. If you still can't get it to work, just email them and give them the lowdown. IF they are anything like HP, they'll reply within an hour or two(a live reply). Thats the fasted reply time i've ever had.
