Lock Ups
Just a quick question from yall if ya dont mind.
Windows xp os here. Sometimes when surfing, opening up programs etc the comp sticks like, meaning the program like locks up, it will eventually open on own, or I speed it up by clicking right mouse key and do refresh or like hit the ctrl alt delete and then it frees up like there was no prob. Wondering if it might be my hard drive going out ?? All else works great Any ideas ?? Reinstalled Xp last week, for kicks..No difference... Any ideas I would love to here them Thanks Guys---And Im proud to be a new member here--awesome site--first class My specs are: Soya SY-PS-645DX Dragon Ultra MOBO p4 2.4 (no Over Clocking) 768 Meg of DDR PC2700 Radeon 9700 Pro Primary 30 G Maxtor Drive HD Secondary 80 G Western Digital HD |

Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers for your motheboard, like the AGP/IDE drivers. Also the latest bios.

If you leave task manager running and replicate the problem, is the task using 100% CPU time (or near enough) ?

It turns out that one of the recent hotfixes is the cause of the problem. Apparently Microsoft didn't adequately test this before releasing it. Removing it gets rid of the slowdown.
To remove it, go to: Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs Scroll down to the bottom and look for Hotfix 811493. Remove it. Reboot. try that if you haven't already.... |

Shuki my god thank you, that was it. I bow down to you for that one.
For all with same prob, this did it....When you go to delete it, a list will come up to tell you basically that every program on your comp wont work after you uninstall it, I chose to ignore this message and did it anyways and let me say no diiference with comp at all EXCEPT the fact that those damn lock ups are gone. Shuki you da man...... Thanks a million..... Now if we can just get those damn 3.4's out my day will be complete....
