More than 512DDR ram in Windows XP

Hi everyone,

I am running Windows XP pro with 512DDR ram (pc2700). I am thinking about adding another 512MB making my total Mem 1Gig.

Is it a good idea to have 1gig under XP pro?

Many Thanks

Mank

if you want but dont do it unless you are going to do some rendering of 3D stuff or something. 1GB of ram is stupid if all you are going to do is game and watch movies and maybe make some flash animations... also this kind of thread needs to be in the Technology Discussion forum.

It really is pointless, and yes I am running 1 Gig but because of upgrade reasons rather than wanting to have 1 gig.

ram

RAM

I am running two 512 megs sticks of DDR pc 3200 on Asus A7N8X Deluxe. I like my memory I think its a huge performance booster especialy when you play mmorpgs. But whats the nicest part of having tons of Ram is RamDisk I have a (Dell Invision)worstation that runs some realy intensive stuff and I got my boss to fork out for a RocketDrive DL and 4 GB of Ram Btw having no paging file because of that is extremly nice

Any who if you want to check these guys out http://www.cenatek.com/products.cfm

Not for the OS as previously mention. However, if you are a game player, then I would say yes.

With the prices of ram these days why not? If you use you comp for more than just web browsing and have stuff like Nortons av and Internet securites going.(need the latter can't have my daughter surfing completely unprotected)
I notice I hit my pagefile quite regularly when gaming(EQ) or doing photoshop.(seems like the longer I have it open the slower it gets) Can't wait for my 2x512 Corsair TwinX to arrive

well you can go to 1gig of ram, but you can improve performance if you manually set the size windows uses for virtual memory... this can be done by right clicking on my computer, properties. Then go to the advanced tab, click on performance and then the advanced tab again. you will see virtual memory... usually windows has a range for example 256mb - 768mb... you can make performance better by setting it to be twice the amount of ram in each spot so that it only uses the same space every time. i have mine set to 1.5GB ... and it seems to have improved things a lot!

here is an example from my pc as well
