Maybe...that would depend on what components the system has. Some newer bits of hardware don't have XP support.

Unless you have a mission critical application that absolutely refuses to run on VISTA, why would you want to downgrade?

Contrary to what the "so called experts" have been saying, VISTA is superior to XP. It really gripes me that some pompous blowhard will install VISTA and play with it for a day of so, and then write an article that trashes it. Of course, the same blow hards did the same when XP came out.

Quite listening to the "experts" that don't or have never used VISTA! Listen to the guys that have been using it every day. WE are the experts, not some pompous "journalist" sitting behind a desk that needs an article for the next issue!

I have a mix of XP and Vista installations in both 32-bit and 64-bit, and I use the VISTA 64 bit install almost exclusively now. About the only thing I use XP for is beta testing for HyperOS. There is one XP 32-bit system that the wife is using for her geneology, but that's because here geneology app won't run on VISTA, and the folks that made it aren't going to update it. She's looking for a new program that she likes so she can switch to VISTA also.

Vista wont cause your laptop to freeze. It may push a particular component harder than XP but if that component is giving up already then it is only a matter of time before a program you run in XP causes the same thing to happen. There is also a chance it could be a driver issue.

Can you list the specifications of the laptop in here please. If you dont know how to find them, the easiest place is usually on the box the laptop arrived in.

Have a think about the times it has frozen and let us know what you were doing at the time also.

Worst case scenario you have been unlucky, the laptop is broken, always has been and needs to be replaced, once again XP wont fix that.

wonder if the OP knows what's been happening to his post, lol.

btw, jobbe, you may want to give more info on what it was you're looking for, and on the problems in using the Vista.
