Media player classic don't have any installer, it's deployed in .zip file that has the player's .exe file. What kind of media file you are trying to open and what version of mpc you are using?

try the k-lite mega codec pack

i havent tried this version but i have had no major problems with any k lite mega codec pack. should play anything you need, pending you are not having a major codec issue. have you installed any other codec packs or tools?

Hmm...sounds like you have some shortcuts links messed up. Can you access the mpc's exe directly and open it "manual" way...

So it seems that you need the wmp9 installed to playback the content of those media files. mpc does use some parts of WMP9 to playback video and audio.

Does Windows MediaPlayer work by itself? If no then you'll probably need to install the latest version. If MediaPlayer seems fine, try the MPC-HomeCinema edition instead of the regular old MPC: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/index.html (MPC-HomeCimena is best anyway)

That shouldn't happen with either of the two editions of MPC, but it's worth a try if it doesn't seem like the problem is really with Windows MediaPlayer itself. Either way the HomeCinema edition has some advantages over regular MPC that has not been developed further for a long while.

mkk, the mpc and the mpc-hm uses DirectShow Video output so if there isn't WMP9 or newer installed it can't play video, unless you have Haali renderer installed. So look the Playback/output settings

no you just get newest wmp from MS install it, so that the mpc has the video render installed what it uses to render the video. And since the mpc is distributed in a compressed file you actually don't install it in any way. You just use it as it is but it needs some software installed so that it works.

1. Do you have WMP9 or WMP10 installed?
If Yes, go to 2.
If No, then download and install WMP10 from Microsoft.
2. Does the problem persist?
If Yes, then download MPC-HomeCinema and try it.
If No, then WMP was the problem.
3. I'm pretty sure the problem is gone now. Am I right?
If Yes, hurrah!
If No, then I'm lost. Sorry.

Actually the easiest thing would be to download MPC-HomeCinema first and try running it, to see if that helps. All you need to do then is to download the zip file and extract it to somewhere, like on the desktop will do fine for simple testing. Here's a link to the download: SourceForge.net: Files "mplayerc_homecinema_x86_v1.1.604.0.zip"
