No boot with floppy

I don't know what's wrong but I can't get a floppy to boot. Format as bootable but it always comes up asking for the path to command.com, which I seemingly can't reach anyway.

Not a big problem since I just now, after 6 months, discovered I could get into a bios flash utility from inside bios but still, it puzzles me.

oh man, bootable floppy disk...can't even remember the command.
Not sure if you can even do that from XP. format a: /s if I remember correctly.

I had the same issue while back and solved it by getting 1GB USB stic and put the UBCD on it, there are instructions how to do it on the net. Then put the BIOS updater and the rest of it's files on the stick and booted from there. You need to select one of the DOS prompts in there. Then I updated my BIOS and it went ok.

Hey, I still use my trusty old floppy [drive]

Yes, I noticed so it's all good. Though, I like things to work so I wanna try and fix this, if it's at all possible.

I managed to get it to boot a while back by formatting the floppy on my other computer before installing SP3. However, that same floppy refused to boot just the other day so I have no idea why not.

Anyway, not that it's a big problem anymore but since I have this thing of having to have things working as they should.. :P

have you tried taking the boot floppies over to a known working computer (that of course, has a floppy drive) and test booting from them?
hmm, there might be a problem with floppy disc itself, floppy controller, floppy drive, drive's cable, system BIOS, RAM, i probably would have to check these all out.

Yes, I've been thinking about that. Problem is, the only other computer that could ever boot this disc is my webserver and I don't want to shut that down just to test a floppy.

My old Amiga 4000 can't boot it either so.

I think I'll just leave it as it is and then test when the opportunity arises.
