Big Grin Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

I bought a Compaq Presario CQ50-110US and used driverheaven to find some drivers to help install XP Pro SP2. In the end I used the webpage below and I got everything working! Just registered to help other people out as well...

The big problem for me was the wifi, just like the referenced page... and it solved it! Atheros 5009 driver is there

From Compaq Presario CQ50-110US (Compaq CQ50 family) Windows XP Downgrade (Upgrade!)

Quote:
Downgrading (Upgrading) to WinXP on Compaq CQ50-110US (CQ50 family)

You can find a lot of the drivers for this variant of the CQ50 family online, but the wireless driver is the one that took me hours to find. Turns out that this laptop uses the Atheros AR5009 (also called Atheros 5009) wireless mini-pcie card.

I've collected all the drivers here to download: Compaq Presario CQ50-110US drivers. The drivers are in the order that I installed them, so you should probably try and do the same order if possible.

After all those drivers, everything on the laptop works in Windows XP. It's a lot faster than it was with Vista and with winxp it runs like butter. Everything works including: the card reader, the wifi (wireless), the blue/orange wireless toggle button, all the function keys, all the leds, the 3d video acceleration from the nvidia 8200M card, etc.

There's also some unused drivers that people on the net said worked for them but that I didn't need, as well as some other wireless drivers which were for the wrong card.

The installation order matters a lot I think for the Microsoft UAA driver, followed by the NVidia HDMI audio then the conexant audio and then the modem. That's steps 4-7 in the driver directory.

For the conexant audio and modem I know that you can't just simply run the setup program, you need to go through the device manager and do the "Have Disk" thing. For the video I think you need to do the same thing as well (step 2). Can't remember exactly, since I ended up doing so many variations until I go everything working, and then slept, then wrote this. But the drivers that I used are all there in order, so with some rejigging you will get it all going.

The HP Quicklaunch requires .NET 2.0 , the only reason I installed it in the end is because of the monitor vga display switch button (Fn + F4). Wasn't sure it would work without it since no dialog or text was displayed when you pressed it. But I didn't try hooking another screen to see if worked anyway. The software is pretty heavyweight for just that function. Good thing this notebook comes with 3GB of ram. Without this, most of the other buttons worked fine including audio volume.

The synaptics touchpad driver didn't seem necessary, it only added the vertical scroll ability. It's useful sometimes so I kept it.

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

I got a CQ50-142US and I downgraded it from Vista to XP.

See here for complete story: http://www.photorz.com/notes/nikko/4

However, there are three problems so far.

1. The built-in mic refuses to work.
2. The wireless button refuses to turn blue (tho it's working)
3. The screen & audio refuses to function after recoverying from stand by mode.

Anyone has similar issues on CQ50 with Windows XP installed? I am currently using dual-boot because I cannot solve the above problems.

Wink Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

Just wanted to put my two cents in on the downgrading from Vista to Windows XP. I just received this email from Compaq/HP regarding the downgrading. They don't recommend the downgrade because this laptop was specifically designed for the Vista OS, ... BUT, .... If you're going to do the downgrade (as I am going to do), they list all the drivers required to accomplish it, and they included links to the downloads for them. Hope this helps some.

~ Compaq/HP Response Regarding Downgrade From Vista to WinXP ~

Dear Don,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
From your email I understand that your notebook is bundled with the Windows Vista Operating System and you want to downgrade to Windows XP Operating System and you need drivers for Windows XP Operating System.

Don, HP does not recommend downgrading the operating system from Windows Vista to Windows XP as the notebook is specially designed and bundled for Windows Vista Operating System. HP has not tested this notebook model with Windows XP operating system. If you install a retail version of Windows XP, then all the preinstalled applications like Quick Play, CD/DVD burning software etc will get deleted.

If you wish to downgrade the Operating System from Vista to XP, then you will have to install a Retail version of Windows XP Operating System CD/DVD.

Next, as you have decided to install Windows XP operating system, the following is the list of compatible drivers:

* Audio driver:
Before installing Audio driver, first you need to install UAA driver.
Install the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver from the below softpaq:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe
Installation Instructions:
=======================
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now, try to install Audio driver from the below softpaq:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35683.exe
NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33031.exe

Synaptics Touchpad Driver:

NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
Quick Launch Buttons:

Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver:

Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver:

Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Driver :

Installation Instructions:
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please get back to me with observations and results because it is important that I resolve your issue in a timely manner. I would like to add that we value your precious time and would be here round the clock to serve you.
Looking forward to assist you.
Have a Great Day.
Sincerely,
Tom

??? Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

Can anyone tell me where I can find instructions for making an installation CD/DVD for the downgrade of Vista to XP on the Compaq CQ50-110US? I'm downgrading my new laptop and have most (if not all) of the files required, but would like to compile everything onto a single installation CD/DVD for future installations if needed.
Thanks,
disaksen

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

cgil, get the correct drivers from here : Download Search Results!

ICH9 is part of the Intel's chipset that the laptop has. So the best place to look for the XP drivers is Intel's support site.

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

I found the chpset in Intel but....I added the f6flpy32_85.zip with WinImage in to the floppy, I get the following files:
txtsetup.oem
iaahci.cat
iastor.cat
iaahci.inf
iastor.inf
iastor.sys
license.txt
readme.txt

Then, I turn on the laptop, load the XP CD, press F6, and tells me that I have to select the SCSI Adapter from the following list:
- 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller(Desktop ICH7R/DH)
- 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller(Desktop ICH7R/DH)
- 82801FR SATA RAID Controller(Desktop ICH6R)
- 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller(Desktop ICH6R)
- 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller(mobile ICH6M)
- 82801ER SATA RAID Controller(Desktop ICH5R)
- 6300ESB SATA RAID Controller

There is no ICH9m(the one that supposed to be the correct one), am I doing anything wrong?

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

ICH9 don't use the RAID driver that you have downloaded. All what you need is the first file from the list that you can see from my previous post's link to Intel's support site.

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

So you haven't installed XP yet?! XP should install just fine with the generic driver for ICH9. When you have installed you should install the driver.

Thanks for the CQ50-110US drivers. However I'm not able to install the video driver and wonder how you were able to do this since there doesn't seem to be an XP driver for this model.

Re: Compaq CQ50-110US WinXP drivers (downgrade from vista)

Useful thread, thanks.
I installed these drivers from the exact same website about a month ago and everything was working fine.
Just a week ago, my computer started blue screening whenever I put the laptop into standby with:

Machine_check_exception
"Stop 0x0000009C (0x00000004, 0x805461F0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)"

I contacted HP and was given suggestions to check RAM, hard drive, etc. I tried all of these with no improvement.
I found another version of the video driver (which was updated, but it needed to be installed via the "have disk" options). The problem persisted

I'm curious if anyone has experienced this problem with these drivers and help me out in my troubleshooting. I did try restoring my drive to a clean copy from a month ago when it did work and it still blue screened, which makes no sense as it WAS working fine a month ago..

Edit: Recently instead of blue screening and restarting it just hangs with the monitor off but I have no indication if it crashed or if the monitor just refuses to turn back on,
