Default Post ALI IDE drivers and Win XP

ALI still hasn't come out with an XP driver or utility for windows XP - does anybody have any idea when they might? I'm about ready to junk my A7A266-E board and never purchace another board with an ALI chipset but am holding off.

Eh? You kidding me? Yeah they have.

ftp://www.ali.com.tw/driver/agp_1.90_eng.zip

(comes with IDE, AGP, onboard stuff drivers etc)

look before you speak.

I have the same mobo and use those drivers. They work great.

They also have an AGP Tweak utility:

ftp://www.ali.com.tw/driver/agp_utility140.zip

Default Post yes they do have that engine but if you look at the IDE driver within it's listed elswhere as not XP

yes they do have that engine but if you look at the IDE driver within (the same driver is listed by itself as not XP compatible and the IDE utility doesent work under XP)

dude, i duno what you're talkin about. the new 1.9 drivers have xp compatible ide drivers and i installed them just fine (and i MADE SURE that they were installed just in case too). It is, however, annoying that the ide utility doesn't work in XP. The AGP utility works though. And anywayz, its usually not necessary (or even recommended) to get newer IDE drivers unless the current ones are giving you problems. (AGP drivers should be upgraded frequently however).

Default Post The 1.9 is the AGP and AGP only

The 1.9 is the AGP and AGP only, the integrated driver for XP is 1.07 which include's IDE 1.0.0.5 and IDE chach utility 1.06.

If you pull up the IDE drivers by themselves you see that none are listed as XP compatible!!!
I do have problems with this driver - my CDRW fails to run properly under this driver but if I use a hard drive wit Win ME I have no problems - I further tested by installing my CDRW on an XP system using the VIA chipset and found no problems so I reformatted the hard drive on my ALI motherboard and found the same problems. I asked ASUS and the reply was that ALI hasent yet updated there IDE drivers for XP!!!
Look at This Link http://www.asusnetq.com.tw/inside.asp and look at ALI not yet XP compatible. ASUS explains allot.

Default Post I may be more likely to add an ata 133 controller card

I may be more likely to add an ata 133 controller card but am still hoping for ALI to fix this, it's been over a year since they have had a copy of XP to work with and XP has now been the standard for some time. It's not right for ALI to say there driver is XP compatible just because the AGP portion is, Especially when ALI's own download site allows you to download each of the portions of the integrated driver and when you look at each of these individual drivers ALI does specify the AGP as XP compatible but specifies all the other drivers as not XP compatible. Ive also heard that many peaple have trouble with the IDE driver for win 2000 under a win 2000 system.

There seems to have a problem with ali ide drivers and win xp.. after installing that, my harddisk and zip drive becomes SCSI in device manager. Uninstalling the ali ide driver, the ide utility says my harddisk is 100/133..

I didn't install ali agp and there is still agp 4x on my system.. seems that winxp already have support for ali chipsets AND the ide drivers are better than those from Ali themselves.

From my experience, the default IDE drivers for ALL chipsets are ALWAYS better left as the default windows and the default AGP drivers in Windows ALWAYS SUCK.

Basically: leave the IDE and upgrade the AGP

Default Post Fix!!!

I did what you suggested - that is I uninstalled the ALI IDE driver and removed all traces of ALI in the windows driver cache then reinstalled only the ALI AGP driver - my system is now more stable (the CD-ROM's work) and I even have an improvement on the hard drive benchmark using wintune.

Thank's

good move!!!

i ran the ali integrated 1.07 on my win2k machine last week, and well, the install totally crashed my system. as soon as windows started up i would always get a stop error. it really sucked.

so yeah, dallasstar is totally right. do not touch the ali ide drivers with a 10 foot pole. but upgrading the agp drivers are a necessity
