exclamation Installing XP

Hello friend,

Recently I purchased Sony Vaio model VGN-CS14 laptop with Vista home edition preistalled. Now I want to remove vista and instal XP Home Edition. I wanna make myself sure there won't be any driver related issue when i format my laptop and install XP. Can some one please advice?

Many Thanks!

Re: Installing XP

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

Since the laptop came with Vista preinstalled you will encounter driver problems. Since Sony has intended it to have Vista they don't have any drivers for XP at all. So some of the features might not work at all in XP. So in the end I would recommend to use Vista on it.

Re: Installing XP

Hey...Thanks for the quick reply :-)

The major issue with my new laptop is that sometimes or more frequently rather, my laptop restarts itself suddenly after flashing error message on a blue screen like "Dumping memory..." for few seconds. I thought this could be due OS corrupted ( Vista in this case). Since I don't have vista OS with me and even creating recovery has been problematic and hence I thought giving a try by installing XP. Can you please suggest me what could be the problem? Hope there isn't any hardware related issue.

Many Thanks!

Re: Installing XP

If the warranty is still valid I would send it back to the store for replacement. It would useful to know what the exact BSOD is ...

Re: Installing XP

Yes, the warranty is still valid...I discussed this problem with Sony Vaio technical representative...they kept my laptop under under observation for almost a week and reported they didn't get any such error. Servicing of sony in India has been very pathetic I must say...Does anyone has any similar exprerience with their laptop...If yes then what were the cause of such computer malfunctioning? This problem has become so frequent that I am consistently loosing data...Can someone suggest???

Many Thanks!

Could you not just back up all the drivers you need on it or prior to putting XP google them and see if there are one for xp you can use ?
