Stuck at low resolution, won't change from 640 X 480
I'm pretty sure this is a software issue and not hardware, so I'm sticking this here. Same thing is happening with two different video cards whith their proper drivers.
Celeron 2.4 in an asrock ge-pro-m2, AGP video.... running XP sp3 fairly new install. I had a nivida geforce2 MX in there and it was working. with a dell 17" CRT I could do 1600X1200 if I wanted to, but basicly run at 1280X1024. I had just repaired (fan swap) a geforce3 with dual head and wanted to move to dual monitor. (both are the same Dell 781 CRT) Plugged it in, works but can't get anything but 640X480...... New install of the latest nvidia drivers for that card..... I even tried letting nivida figure out which card it was with their webpage plugin thingy...... geforce3 ti200. Same driver package I had installed. This is the first time I used this card, got it free, so I figure "card issue".... ![]() I put a known good Matrox dual head, hook it up, fire it up..... same thing! Stuck at 640X480 32bit and can't change it. It allows me to change it, when I hit apply the screen goes blank, comes back at 640X480 and asks if I want to save changes. I can still see the setting I tried to change to on the slider, but if I chick yes or no it changes right back to 640X480. Same thing single or dual monitor. So having gone through this whole ritual twice now,(swap cards, install drivers, etc) I decided to shut it down and ask...... ![]() saves damage to the computer that way![]() Like from hitting the sidewalk after flying through the window........I mean, WTF is wrong with this picture? did a couple of searchs on the web, found a few things that were applicable .... some place said to go into safe mode, change res, and restart... that didn't do it. I'm out of ideas. I haven't run drivercleaner, because I don't have it and right now can't afford the $9. I really want dual monitors so one of these two cards matrox or geforce3 is going to have to work..... it's gotta be a windows thing, right? Any ideas? ![]() ![]() Thanks in advance

Re: Stuck at low resolution, won't change from 640 X 480
Okay, there must have been a better way to do this.........
I tried a few more things, nadda. I ended up choosing the Matrox card because I knew it did dual view, and I wasn't sure if the Geforce3 did anything more than a clone. So then I burned a new install disk for XP, slipped SP3 and the Matrox drivers, MOBO drivers for the NIC and IDE, built the ISO with nlite for unassisted install with the coa and time zone, etc. I even told nlite to set default res at 1280X1024.... and rebooted. Formatted C: and let her run. When I came back everything was perfect......... Matrox driver asked me if I wanted dual view and rebooted to a perfect setup. I'm sure there was a registry setting I could have edited but I couldn't find it. ![]() So, I'm putting KX drivers on it with the audigy4 value and I have a new tool to use....

Re: Stuck at low resolution, won't change from 640 X 480
That's okay, but man... it had to be something stupid simple. There were so many things that I just couldn't change having to do with video and I knew it was a windows deal.... the hardware is fine. In the long run I didn't lose anything as I had just re-installed XP about 3 weeks ago or so....... MS better activate it properly or I'll be pissed if they don't.
At least it's a clean install of drivers and stuff. I just installed KX drivers on that Audigy4 (from the other thread TravelRec started) in this system. This one's for the loft studio along with my P4.... AMD is in the basement with the Audigy platinum W/Drive and a Live card. All three have dual monitors. Finding it hard to do recording/mixing without two monitors. Getting there......
