First Post

Greetings all.

I stumbled in here because I am looking for a solution I can't seem to find.

I run XP on my gamer, and have an ATI HD4850 graphics card. Recently I upgraded to DX10, as I play LoTRO and I wanted to see the graphics in better quality.

Thing is, I can't make use of any of the DX 10 game settings available to the interface. I have a feeling this is because to the game, my ATI driver is designed for XP. And there's the rub. I'm relatively certain I can't install the Vista drivers, but I probably need different ones to take full advantage of DX 10. So the big questions are, DO I need new drivers, and if so, do I need some hybrid that isn't offered by ATI.

Anyone got a clue, as I sure don't...

First off, welcome to DH.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but DX 10 is Vista only. XP can't use it.

If you want to use DX 10 you will have to upgrade to Vista, or Windows 7 when it's released. There is no other option.

Ah, but I beg to differ. Look here: Install DirectX 10 on XP With DirectX10 RC2 Pre Fix 3

Well, DX10 isn't supposed to work on XP and installing Vista Drivers on a Xp machine won't help much either. I think the easiest way to activate those DX10 options is just installing Vista (or Windows 7 whenever it's out).

Agreed !!

slypig01 if you start to get into installing and modding Vista drivers to work on XP you might as well install Vista or await Win7.

Welcome to the site

Im sure if you spent enough time on this you may be able to get it to work....

Trouble is finding drivers that WILL WORK in xp that DX10 will accept...... (Its not impossible, just time consuming trying to get it running)

Good luck to you,i hope it works!
