Display goes blank after Windows welcome screen in XP
I have a system which I had to reload my XP Prof. and when I boot up the system, everything looks normal on boot except after the welcome screen, the display goes blank. The power light on the monitor starts blinking and the indicator light on the tower is still running. I can boot in safe mode and it seems to work fine, so I eliminated bad monitor or driver. Any help would be appreciated...

Actually it probably is the driver.... in safe mode, XP uses it's own driver for video and not the manufacturers.

Re: Display goes blank after Windows welcome screen in XP
Boot the computer while mashing the F8 key repeatedly until a black screen with white text shows up referring to various startup options.
select VGA 640x480 mode Get into windows, set your resolution and frequency of choice, or install the video drivers of choice, apply them, and reboot to save your settings. 99% of the time it's a resolution/refresh rate that is out of range for the monitor being applied due to EDID reading errors either due to the monitor or the video card
