Need some help. I cant seem to change my wallpaper. Just received my new laptop from my work. Group policies are running on my laptop. I am restricted from almost everything. For instance, I only have 3 icons in my control panel. Languages, Keyboard, and Mouse. On my old laptop I could change my wallpaper. I dont know if I'm restricted from doing so now, or if there is actually a real problem. Everything is available for me to change the wallpaper. But when I select the jpeg, nothing happens. And if I right click on the jpeg itself, there is no option that says "set as wallpaper". How can I fix this if it is a problem or how do I remove the restriction that is preventing me from loading a new wallpaper.

How is your user account? Are you an admin or just a limited user?

If you're still a member of the domain, trust me, you can't. Active Directory Group Policies are designed to override the local group policies so that you don't have the ability to change them, even if you're a domain admin.
Kudos to the person that did this though - I'd like to know how they disabled changing the wallpaper so effectively as to remove the option from the context menu.

Anyway, if you're not a member of the domain and you're logging onto the PC locally then you should be able to change the wallpaper by following the instructions in this article. NB: Unless you're logged onto XP as a local admin you won't be able to change the registry settings of HKEY_LOCAL_COMPUTER.
