NTFS Partition after night is RAW
Hi,
I need help. The 2nd NTFS partition from my 160 gb hdd turned after night into RAW. When I want to enter that partition, computer is asking me to format. That partition is my sister's partition, it has 60 gb and it was full, there wasn't free even 1 mb. My sister has very important information there and I don't want to lose that information...But the other 2 partitions from this hdd are working without a problem...The hdd is uot of warranty. I was thinking about a quick format of this partition and after that use a software like GetDataBack for NTFS to recover lost information... Please help me ! Edit: I missed a word in the title, it must be "NTFS Partition after night is RAW"

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
Windows sees it so you should be able to run the data recovery tool right from there as it is before you format it. Active Undelete or EZRecovery are two other programs out there that you might be able to run on it as well.

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
I found that the files weren't deleted...scanned the partition with EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard and found more than 90% of my sister's files...now I need 60 gb free....I need a 3rd hdd..damn..

He's wondering what happened to cause the problem.

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
just an update:
my 160 gb hdd is damaged now. I lost all my information on it. The hdd is not recognized by the computer. I tried to turn on the computer with my older mobo but the hdd is not detected too. I bought a SATA2 drive with 500 gb to replace the old IDE drive. I want it to not happen again.

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
I had a problem on Sunday.
I turned my PC on in the morning and was browsing the net when I had a total system hang. Couldn't get the task manager open, had to turn the PC off at the wall. When I re-booted i got the dreaded bootmgr is missing message. I have two disks in my system. I spent all day trying to install an operating system back onto my primary drive. The BIOS would not recognise the disk, used FIXMBR, FIXBOOT, BOOTCFG /rebuild. Nothing worked. Resorted to trying to install onto my secondary disk with same problem. When it got to late evening I gave up. By now I had two empty drives. Next day I tried installing to an old drive that I know is junked using smaller and smaller partitions to just get an OS working. No luck, was about to call it a day and buy another drive when I tried the FIXMBR, FIXBOOT again on my primary - it worked!!!!! Spent the rest of the day re-installing all my apps and attempting to recover files from the drives using recovery software. My USB stick that was plugged into the PC now won't format. All very strange, if I had to guess I would say some kind of bootsector virus. |

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
I think it was a virus too. It's impossible that the computer, one by itself changed the file system of my hdd, this thing is done by a virus, I'm 99.9% sure.

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
Do you often plug a phone or USB device into your PC? Having just read the thread in the news section about viruses being carried through USB devices. My USB stick is dead and my smartphone was acting strange the day after too - I ended up performing a software reset on it!

Re: NTFS Partition after is RAW
I plug a phone or an old mp3 player in my computer one time in a month and I had no problems with the mp3 player and the phone.
