Hardware Wizard stopped searching web
Can anyone tell me where to find the key or setting to make the Hardware Wizard search the web (or Windows Update) please?
I used to get that facility. But now, with my XP Pro PC, the search is either my HD or CD drive (I don't have a floppy drive.) -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

Re: Hardware Wizard stopped searching web
There's a registry setting to fix this, though I can't recall it...
Either way, I'd recommend against using Windows Update for hardware, personally. There are far too many times when I've seen drivers from WU screw up; network cards stop working, graphics cards display in 8-bit, monitors that won't display anything, it's stupid. The problems are, in fact, fixed by rolling back the driver that WU had installed. I'd strongly recommend searching through the web to find the driver(s) that you need, particularly if you can still get the drivers from the manufacturer's website. Alternatively, if you can't find a driver that you need post a question and, more than likely, someone on here will be able to find a driver for you. Windows Update has been kind enough to some people to find drivers for some of the particularly old hardware but I still don't risk it; even the simplest of drivers WU can get wrong.
