Default Post Ugh.

It just feels so wrong to me in so many ways, but it's in & up. My benches are all slightly down, so I don't think I've gotten it all quite tuned in yet...but it's gonna take me some time playing with it to lock it all down. It's working pretty well, now time to learn how to tweak it.

(BTW-Bubble's is a dual-boot now, I am NOT abandoning 98se that easy! I just figured it's really time I at least TRY to learn more about XP. )

2K and XP benchies will always be slower than Win9x counterparts due to the extra CPU cycles and memory that it takes up. However, compiling a program whilst listening to some .OGG files and surfing the internet becomes a much smoother process due to it's vastly superior multitasking.

I was slow to adopt XP for my home computers too. I still have 98se installed as a dual boot for a few troublesome older games that have a hard time running on xp. Lately I rarely even use 98se, I'm finding more of the older games run in compatibility mode then I thought.

I also am runiing promise ide controller cards did you have them in during install??? If not then this is what i did: after one install when then card wasn't in xp would'nt recognize my other drives, so I started a boot install and went as far to the point where you partition drives there it found the drives, I partitioned them there and after partitioning I stopped install, cold-booted and violla' the drives had been registered in the boot sector and registry.
Try this after istalling your array drivers in windows it should work fine then.

When XP install starts it asks something like "press f6 if you need to install 3rd party mass storage devices" you need to copy driver files to a floppy (mostly mentioned in the readme.txt which directory to put on there) press F6 when xp gives you the message and insert the floppy. XP will than load the array drivers from the floppy prior to install.
Most difficult part here seems to be finding the correct drivers..

Couldn't find it on the asus site..weird

Remind me not to but Asus..i hate it when thet don't supply drivers on their site

On the Asus site it did say there's a promise controller on it..didn't mention which one but i take it your data is correct..

Anyway check this out Driver here found it on old faithfull Gigabyte site unzip, put the correct bit on a floppy and of you go.

In case you're lazy..from the setup.txt file (of course the dirver is in the zip file i.o. on the mobo cd)

Installing Driver During New Windows xp Installation
Note: Before the Windows xp installing, please copy the whole files in the folder as follows "\Other\Promise\IDERAID\20265\Winxp\" of the Driver CD(Support CD came with the M/B) to a floppy disk.

1. CD-ROM Install: Boot from the CD-ROM. Press <F6> after the message "Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID driver" appears.
2. When the "Windows XP Setup" window is generated, press "S" to Specify an Additional Device(s)
3. Insert the Driver diskette into driver A: and press "Enter" key.
4. Choose "WinXP FastTrak100-Lite Controller" from the list that appears on screen, then press the "Enter" key.
5. The Windows XP Setup screen will appear again saying "Setup will load support for the following mass storage devices:" The list will include "WinXP FastTrak100-Lite controller"..
NOTE: If you need to specify any additional devices to be installed, do so at this time. Once all devices are specified, continue to step 6.
6. From the Windows XP Setup screen, press the Enter key. Setup will now load all device files and then continue the Windows XP installation.
