woah, ive been experiencing troubles with my hd ever since 1.49. Strange things started happening, like I wouldnt get acess to certain files at random... I couldnt delete them for whatever reason or cut and paste em... really annoying. Every reboot started up with scandisk wanting to do a checkup, it never found anything...

After installing the 1.50 windows refused to reboot... it said something about not being able to save files and everything came up as mumbo jumbo etc c:/*df*s#42 . Not to mention now it does additional scandisks on my other partions which have been working just fine.

Reckon im forced to format again... hope its not permanent damage, I cant think of what else it could be causing it except for the via drives, since the problems have been starting up immidiatly after installing both 1.49 and 1.50.

Anyone else experienced something like this?

Hmm....I downloaded the 4.50's but I think I'll wait until I see a few more reports on them before I install them. I just reformatted about 2 weeks ago and don't want to go through that hassle again so soon.

Troubles like what ZzzombieBunny are having I don't need. I hope you get it worked out.

.....awaiting some more positive reports.....

I installed these before readin comments on this board and others, wish i hadn't. However I did find a fix for the problem. Once I installed these via drivers my system refused to boot up giving corrupt file this and that errors. did some reading and did what was suggested on another site:

Quote:
Data corruption may occur if the Large System Cache feature is enabled in Windows XP
This symptom does not occur on all systems. The key ingredients that lead to this symptom may include:

System Memory greater than 512 Meg. (1 gigabyte of RAM is common)
Large NTFS disk volumes. And multiple large volumes. (60-100 gigabyte hard drives possibly in RAID arrays)
AGP graphics with large AGP resource requirements (AGP aperture greater than default)
Large file transfers
This problem occurs when the computer runs out of system page table entries. Windows determines (at boot time) the default number of page table entries to assign, based on the amount of system memory available. The items mentioned above all contribute to increasing the number of page table entires that Windows XP must maintain and in extreme cases the page table entries may be exhausted.

To avoid this symptom ensure the System Cache option is NOT selected for Memory usage. Use the Programs option.
- right-click on the My Computer Icon then Properties to open the System Properties dialog box

- select the Advanced Tab then the Settings button under Performance

- select the Advanced tab on the Performance options tab

- in the Memory Usage area, ensure the Programs radio button is selected

- Apply the changes and select OK
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It may be possible to work around this issue by increasing the value for page table entries, as follows,

WARNING: Please make a backup copy of your Registry before proceeding. If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Launch the Registry Editor. Select the Start Button then Run. Type in regedit.exe and select OK.

Locate the SystemPages value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management

Double-click the SystemPages value. The Edit DWORD Value dialog box appears.

Enter the maximum value (0xFFFFFFFF) , and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: 0xFFFFFFFF is the safest value however a value greater than the default but less than the maximum may provide better results.

NOTE: Changing the VALUE from the default may decrease performance by 1-2% .
Once I did that in safe mode I rebooted and set windows XP to do chkdsk on reboot and let it go thru several times till it finished, everything so far is running fine.

Hm this is really weird... after format everything seems to work just fine with the 1.50. I suspect theres some kinda issues with upgrading from 1.49 to 1.50. Respective going to 1.49 from a previous version. Installing on to a clean system doesnt seem to cause any problems.

It's always been my understanding that 4in1 drivers never need to be uninstalled before installing newer ones. They just check what you already have installed and update as necessary.

......I'm still afraid to try these newer ones though.....

thats easier said than done... I dont know how to even do that, except with the 4in1 setup program and even then it screws things up. One time it refused to install the new drivers since it didnt reckognize them anymore or windows installed some default thing that caused problems. Its pretty much a reformat issue when stuff goes wrong with the via...

Screwed my system too! Im in process of backing up before yet another flatten and reformat. Surely Via should have tested these a bit more thougherly.
They have posted a temp fix for it but 2 be honest its a bit of a shock to think that they could get away with it. Someones arse will be kicked!!
