Folder Permissions - Locate Domain

For some reason, whenever I open up location, it only shows the current system on the domain. I wish to add users to allow access to a folder from other domains. The network work fines etc, internet, gaming and the computer shows up in network places. Any help would be good, feel free to explain in advanced terms if required.

Click OK to close the location dialog box,
then Click Advanced.. (lower left corner of the pic),
then "Find Now"
highlight your user name and add....

sorry just reread your post, try checking DNS settings on your PC. it should point to the DNS where resource records are stored for your domain. It should not point to e.g. your ISP DNS directly...

I have checked and rechecked DNS settings, everything looks fine.
My firewall is set up for NETBIOS access inside the LAN and I can share files using Network Places and Internet works fine, it's like this: MY PC is the "Server" and my Laptop is connected to it, my laptop has the same username and password as my server, perhaps this could mean something? This is a bugger.

not sure if any of these will help you, check it out anyway..

Check Event Viewer to see whether the event logs contain any error information. On both the client and the server, check the System log for failures during the logon process. Also, check the Directory Service logs on the server and the DNS logs on the DNS server.

Some useful info there, however, I'm not using a domain.
I am using a Workgroup, I don't want roaming user profiles stored on the server, I only want the user in question with allowed access to selected folders. I wouldn't mind if they were promoted for a password when accessing a shared file, it's all the same.

This Topic came close:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...4ax.com#link12

It points out a similar problem, but it looks as if he actually sees his other computers in the location dialog unlike me. I only see the current system (the main PC which is VSN), it should also see VSN2 and VSN3 which is my other PC and Laptop. Thanks for your help so far and the links, but this on-going problem still hasnt been resolved.

try enabling 'Use simple file sharing' in the 'Folder Options'

and then Run (Start -> Run) this command.. C:\WINDOWS\Help\filefold.chm

then go to..
Sharing Files and folders
-> Share folders with others in your workgroup

and see if you can get any info from the windows help file..

Windows help didn't seem to help much at all.
Perhaps there is a service that is not running to allow other computers in the workgroup to show in the locations dialog. If only there were shown, then this will settle the problem.

sorry i could not be much help..
i think with the 'Use simple file sharing' is enabled,
you should be able to share the folder over your network..
and also be able to allow networks users to change any files in the folders..
i can't think of anything to tell you next..
maybe later or others will come up with a better help to you soon..

I found out that I can't do what I want to do because I'm using a workgroup.

I can share folders fine by using the "Everyone" permission. But I don't want to use "Everyone". I have got it to work a strange way, my Main PC with the files that are bing shared has a username the same as the laptop so the permission is not "Everyone" but the username of the main pc so it works for the other PC. Perhaps this is a security issue for other people too. I cannot believe how something so simple is so hard to find out how to do. I believe it is possible, even if a password was prompted when trying to open a shared file.
