Insufficient Memory in Office XP?

I take Cisco classes at college and the Cisco there is all over the internet (I'm in the Net Academy), for studying purposes I like to paste the document to word, save it, and then print it. At class I can copy right from the Cisco Web Page the material I need to an office document, at home is another story. When I try to do it, I get an insufficient memory error, saying that I need to close more programs.

I don't see how this is happening considering I have plenty of hard drive space, 1 gig of DDR ram, etc. What is causing this, is it a windows setting somewhere that is not allowing me to allocate enough memory to copying text and then pasting it?

I've talked to friends on IRC who say that it is most likely because of all of the HTML data that I am pasting with it. Yet my computer in class has no problem with it, pastes the same thing, and is actually a slower computer with less hard drive space and ram.

Anyone got an ideas?

something could be packing the clipboard (stores your copied information) with something.. such as a virus/spyware/adware..... bogus data..... Oh simply a Office XP Bug .. have you tried reinstall office XP (install possibly went bad).... have you tried pasting into wordpad/notepad which comes with windows?

sometimes this error can be caused by a corrupted normal.dot template file.
Close all Word windows and Locate the normal.dot file and delete it.
Then reopen Word, it'll automatically replace it with a new template file.

try this method 1st if it does not helps pls post back..

Tried your suggestion TIRO, didn't work. I'll run adaware and some spyware programs again to make sure it's nothing like that. There is nothing in the clipboard, it's clear. I guess i'll try a reinstall of office later on as well.

Okay, i'd like to know how's your system page file settings?

some problems with page file can also cause Windows to give this error.

- the page file has become corrupt.
- the page file has been put on a different drive without leaving a minimal amount on default location.
- the setting for Maximum size is too low, or there is not enough disk space free to expand it to that size.

Okay well today I did alot of things to try to get it to work. First I reinstalled office xp, that didn't work. Next I searched on google about it and found this page http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/...ientMemory.htm . Did the Nimba virus scan, nothing found. Replaced the riched20.dll file, nothing. Did the normal.dot thing you suggested, that didn't work heh. Removed all the *.tmp files, there were very few of those.

Let's see.. the page file.. 1533 megs of space for the page file for both my C and D drive.

My pc specs are Athlon 51-FX, double 80 gig hard drives, 1 gig of pc 3200 ram, asus sk8n motherboard, sb live zs, radeon 9700 pro if any of that helps.

try this... using Alt+ctrl+delete to bring up the Task manager.. go to preformance and make a note of the Virtual memory.. physical and Page File...... then load up Office and check again... next try do do a copy and paste and see what happens.... (also make a note of CPU ussage)...... this might tell us something... or not...

Recreate your page file... Open the "System Properties", in the "Virtual memory" settings, select “No page file” on every drives, then exit System Properties, Shutdown your PC, and Reboot.

when you're back in Windows again. Locate the "pagefile.sys" on each drive and Delete it, then Restart..

after that set the page file up again, this time try using the option "System managed size" on C: only and Restart your PC again.

and see if this helps. if it helps then we can try another settings. if it does not helps, try replacing with another RAM.

Virtual memory is fine during the copy and paste of the text, it doesn't even go up one meg. Same with the Page file, and the physical memory, which are all fine. :/

I'll try redoing the page file when I get time. Thanks for all the tips guys. If worst comes to worst, I'll just format, I'm due soon anyway.

I also found that the a Nimba virus can cause problems like insiffient memory, as it corrupts a file named riched20.dll, which i guess office needs to run.
