DMA Mode In Windows XP

I recently encountered a problem whereby my Maxtor hard drive was only able to run in PIO Mode. Previously, it was Ultra DMA Mode 5, and it just happened for no reason one day. When I try to set it to "DMA If Available" under Device Manager -> Primary IDE Channel, it'll still be PIO mode.
