??? Can't install Nvidia driver - HELP!

I had a problem with my HD and some sectors were bad that corrupted the regisrty but I have managed to recover from that, for the most part. When I was able to boot into XP Home the video display was screwy, like inverse or negative. I had had a problem getting into Safe Mode before where it locked up at the agp440 command, so I disabled that service per MS KB instructions and that got the video looking normal. However my video display didn't look right (jumpy when scrolling and seems slow) and in Device Manager I do not see a Display Adapter listed and no Nvidia (I have an Nvidia 64M DDR GeForce3) device to be found anywhere. The only thing in Device Manager is under System Devices, Intel AGP Controller and it has a yellow '!' over it. When I go to Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, the disaplay adpater is just blank and all the chipset info, etc says unavailable. The driver is listed as VgaSave.

So I called Dell (oh, its an 8200 BTW) and they had me remove the Nvidia drivers with Control Panel and then reload them from the Dell recovery CD and then re-install, twice. But it still does not recognize the Nvidia anywhere nor does it show up in Control Panel now. (the driver on the CD is Nvidia Windows 2000/XP) I had updated the driver to the latest several weeks ago and it was fine. That updated loaded an Nvidia 'manager' program that was shown in Control Panel. It wouldn't run and since the drivers were removed that app is not listed anymore - so it looka like the system will not install the drivers.

What is going on? Could it still be the bad sectors haunting me- is it trying to install the drivers there? NAy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"I had a problem with my HD and some sectors"..
Start backing up your important files.

"Intel AGP Controller and it has a yellow '!' over it"..
Check with Dell first, ask them if you can install the "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility" on your system,
and then go to http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/ -> Software & Drivers -> Get the latest driver.
if you've already installed it then uninstall/reinstall the latest ones and see.

Finally got it. Per some advice, I uninstalled the AGP device, rebooted into Safe Mode, cancelled the Hardware Wizard and then installed the new Nvidia driver. Rebooted normally and that did the trick. Thanks for replying.
