if i upgrade xp will i lose any data?

i'm running XP Corp SP1 1102 and i was wondering if i was to reinstall XP by using the "upgrade" option on the CD would i lose any data or anything like that. also, could someone clarify me on the actual benefits of reinstalling?

Since I'm still XP-phobic, but I'd HIGHLY recomend you back up any important information before attempting ANY major system change. "Safe" is a hell of a lot better than "sorry", I've learned that one the hard way more than once.

- sorry but it's true.. you will lose everything if you dont know how to do it really.

- i wud say you will only need an in-place upgrade (reinstallation).. when XP is dead and you need to get your data from the boot partition.. other than that there will be no more benefit.. at all.

at this point, i'm not going to tell you what you shud or shud not do yet.
the 2 below will help you decide whether or not you'll like to do it also to check your knowledge base re said subj. (if you search @ MS KB you will find 100s of err re "upgrade" or "reinstall" for XP).
