I found this out on tweakxp.com... if you formatted your hard drive... have a windows xp AND a windows 98 cd... but you can boot off of the xp cd OR the xp boot discs and you dont feel like installing windows 98 JUST to install windows xp... then you can install through DOS!
1) Boot into dos with a windows 98 boot disc 2) put in the windows 98 cd, got to \WIN98, then copy smartdrv.exe to your hard drive. 3) Goto your hard drive and run smartdrv.exe 4) put in your XP cd and goto \I386 then run winnt.exe 5) now windows xp is installing through DOS. ***It may say that a few files cant be copied... but dont worry about those, just skip them, they arent important system files or anything.*** |

it depends... most pirated copies dont come with the boot sector... but you can download it somewhere at windowsxp.nu, you might have to make another xp cd... no im not saying that you have a pirated copy... if you dont, then tell your bios to boot off of the cd-rom drive. not all motherboards support this however...
