Default Post Will XP SERVICE PACK 1 fix the REFRESH rate problem with gaming.

This has probably been discussed before but will this service pack fix the low graphic and low refresh rate of games. I hope this fixes the issue with this. I cannot stand to see the flickering of the screen in games. If it has been fixed, Please let me know.

Default Post The Refresh Problem,

still persists. It has been suggested that M$ has fixed the refresh problem fo Direct X games, although i have seen no evidence of this myself on my machine.

The best thing to do is to find a program that works for your machine, I use reforce, just do a search on Google and you will find it.

Best of luck.

Bill.

BTW check PM

I have a Ati All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500dv and I use tv out. Those programs do not allow tv due to the refresh of tv is 60 and if I force the drivers to due 85hz - I lose the tv out all together.

Thanx for the Input and PM

Default Post Update Microsoft has fixed the Direct3d games but not OpenGL

What you have to do is override the directdraw in directx Diagnostic tool. In windows XP under its interface with directx 8.1, this is how to fix that.

1. Click Start
2. all programs (old interface programs)
3. goto accessories
4. system tools
5. click system information
6. wait
7. Now on system information click tools
8. drop to directX diagnostic tool and click it
9. wait a minute til it loads
10. Click the more help button
11. a little tweak located at the bottom
12. "Click this button to override Directdraw's Refresh Rate"
13. CLICK IT
14. on the next screen click bullet beside override value
15. Enter in your refresh rate value BuT BeWaRe ThAt YoU Do NoT PuT A VaLuE ThErE ThAt YoUr MoNiToR CaN NoT SuPpOrT.
16. Click Okay
17. Then Restart to make sure that it is the value is put into the system.

That's for directDraw Games. BUT Microsoft has to Fix the Opengl Now.

Pete, you really want to try refreshforce
It does not change the refresh on the TV-OUT.

I've tried the Override DirectDraw refresh and have not noticed any difference in refresh rate. The only thing that I've found that seems to work really well for everything I've thrown at it is RefreshLock. Both Opengl & Directx games work well I have not had the problems associated with other proggies I've used for this purpose. Has a small footprint too, and you fire it up only as needed. Not required to sit in the systray all the time.
