Internet Explorer is the best browser in the world

A MAN has claimed that the Microsoft browser is the best browser in the world.

Scott Stearns, IE Test Manager at Microsoft makes the astonishing claim on the IE Blog.

Stearns says: "I really love browsing with IE".

He continues: "I realize that statement will cause some people to chuckle based on current press on security issues and perceived lack of innovation, but that is my job".

Isn't it our job to make people chuckle, Scott?

He adds that if you want to try out the latest IE browser, he encourages you to download and run the latest release candidate for Windows XP service pack two.

It's got leaks, but it runs out well...

Used it exclusively since version 3.0 - even when the workplace was Netscaped I rebelled and stuck with it. Now the workplace is IE'd, and it was the users that called the ball for themselves - not the software IT people. That user experience is why IE is overall the best and most used browser.

Yep, gotta agree, I'm currently using firefox browser and thunderbird email client and I've got to say I'm more comfortable with IE and OE. If they get their security act together and add tabbed browsing that would definately win me back again.-

I have to admit, even with all of IE's flaws, I still like it the best. I think it's the interface that I like the most. I do use Avant Browser however, which is pretty much just a dressed up version of IE.

Bah, I hate IE, it doesn't support new web standards, and has a huge amount of security holes.

If I can't view a site properly with either Firefox or Opera, it's either coded wrong, or at least badly.

Ah but SP2 is out soon, plus all the negative pubicity over IE might finally make the slow moving behemoth that si MS to do something sensible; like listen to it's critics.

i used to use ie until i recently tried ff. i've gotta say i like the customisable toolbars, popup blocker and tabs. When I last tried an alternative browser (opera), i was disgusted by the huge banner and loads of pages that just didn't look right. I'm sure they've fixed all that by now but it pissed me off so much i'll not likely go back. ff on the other hand has thoroughly impressed me! thanks to all the security holes in ie i was forced to experiment again and this time it paid off, big time!

IE's interface is 10x better than FF- FF is clunky and downright slow compared to IE- FF is also not as stable as IE. The way it handles favorites is ridiculous, what ever happened to the right click? What happened to scrolling in test boxes with the middle mouse button click? All kinds of annoyances, really to many to list.. You get used to IE6's intuitive interface and it's hard to use FireFox..

I just set FF to my default browser and IE keeps taking back over again for some reason, maybe I should let it keep the position.. All the extensions in the world won't fix all the little bugs..

On the other hand there are a lot of features (after the extension installation process) in FireFox that I wish IE6 had, and that I really don't want to live without- Specific image and ad-blocking are a necessity, why IE doesn't have something similar is a mystery.. Little things like faster scrolling favorites menus are hard to live without too-

If I knew how to do it, I could build the perfect browser by combining traits of both FireFox and IE6- mostly traits from IE would consist of user interface and the overall "feel" of the controls- and the traits from FF would be some of the features and extensions you can install...

I wish I knew how to do it- I'd be a much happier camper..

I'd try to defend FF, but don't use it enough to do it justice... Opera however, doesn't have these problems... well, the default UI has some problems, but it's easily customizable to look however you want, and they've even got an IE pack, that makes it look and behave almost exactly like IE.

Most of things BWX mentions as advantages of IE I consider disadvantages (User interface... I have seen better. Favorites? That's probably the worst way of managing them I have ever seen in a browser). I have used it for some time (IE5 & IE6), but I wouldn't use it again after trying Firefox.

indeed I agree, but you could say the same about windows/linux. All depends if you want to spend time battling with getting things to look and work right or just want it all working "out of the box". you know if you are running IE the websites will display and correctly, regardless of poor coding or sloppy browser standards.

I dont know how many times ive been running firefox, only to have to revert to IE to get the offending website to work correctly. its happened so many times, I simply can barely be arsed to run anything else anymore - especially when im reinstalling an OS every other week.

Heh, that sounds exactly like what MS probably wants to hear. (except for the weekly reloading of their OS )

There's nothing wrong with Firefox, although IMO Opera is better... however, in the last 2 versions (7.52, 7.53) there's a bug where images, and webpages continue to download even after you stop them, or even close the tab, which makes it nearly unusable for 56k users like myself.

Although this is promised to be fixed with the next version (7.55), it makes browsing the web much less enjoyable.

Firefox and Opera are by far the best. I don't know how I could even use IE before. It is lacking so many features and it is quite a bit slower. Not to mention all the security problems. IE is dead!

thats quite a major bug, but im not surprised ive used opera on and off for the last few years its a bit of a mess generally. Which is a shame because it always had the potential to clean up.

I personally use Maxthon because it's built on IE so it supports everything that IE supports like that stuff you mentioned Zardon. But's it's still beta so I use Firefox because it's not a huge resource hog if Maxthon is buggy. But I like Maxthon's tabs better. Firefox opens new browser windowsfor links unless you press ctrl but Maxthon keeps it all together in one window.

That's just what I'm saying about Opera, especially talking about UI part. It is powerful, it has a lot of options, but it looks way too messy.

Its a shame really riv@ there is so much about opera I loved and still like it (which is why I keep popping into the browser and checking out new versions). it just seems to me to be coded by a team of monkeys who release some awful coding errors and sloppy ideas and its in a constant state of patch flux - I really cant be arsed with it anymore. its more a curiousity thing for me now.

I would never trust my money to any bank that only works with insecure IE. And the coders of all these pages are then brain dead if they don't know how to code properly.
