OKay how do i get ie to search from the address bar using google?! I've searched all over the net and found the simple solution over and over: searchpanel(Ctrl+E)->customise->autosearch settings->choose a search provider for address bar searches->pick 'google pages'
My problem: there is no *%&#ing "google pages", there is only "MSN", nothing else! I tried the reg hacks but none of them affect this. I don't want any bloody Googlebar either!

I can tell you how to just type: "g <search string>" in the Address and it'll use Google. But I can't tell you how to just get it to search with Google by default.

it just pisses me off that m$ put in the option, then don't give you a choice anyway. but apparently i'm the only one who doesn't get to choose google, according to my searches. try it yourself. do you get to chose?

I wouldn't know. I don't use IE and if I do, it's MYIE2 which has a built in option, I believe. I just use the "g <search string>" way, since I can also add in other options like "gi" for Google Images, "d" dictionary.com.

the option m$ provide is hidden and doesn't work, and then when i finally give up it magically fixes itself, but god only knows why! wasted time and unnecessary frustration = m$

yes but like i said in post#1, I don't get that, i get:
how come i don't have all the other providers listed? anyway, as i stated in post#5, it doesn't matter because my search from the address bar now uses google, but god knows why!

To change the Search Companion and address bar search to Google, you must disable the Search Companion, change the AutoSearch URL, and then re-enable Search Companion. To disable the Search Companion feature and use the Classic Internet Search feature from IE open Internet Explorer, click the Search button on the toolbar. Click Change Preferences, and then click Change Internet search behavior. Click With Classic Internet Search, and then click OK. Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect. To change the autosearch URL, open the Search sidebar again and click Customize. Then click AutoSearch settings and select "Google Sites". To re-enable the Search Companion feature, click Customize on the Search bar. Click Use Search Companion in the Customize Search Settings dialog box, and then click OK. Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect. |

press search button, press change preferences, press change internet search behavior & choose the prefered search engine. Edit: should learn to type faster

why us a stupid inbuilt search, when the toolbar works better has extra features and doesn't require to load a search page each time you search
