Netdde.exe missing when installing service packs

Title explain my predicament… the file simply does not exist/show up when i search for it when installing both service pack 1a and service pack 2… i asked my friend to send me the file over MSN but it doesn't exist in the received files folder either… wtf is going on?

i'm not sure how that file is missing.
i think i'd just create a new XP setup CD with SP2 integrated and then do a new/clean XP install,

it would be better/surer, if you could, delete the OS partition, recreate and a new setup but this is up to you..

i removed aprogram that AVG called a virus in my startup folder called "netdb.exe" or something like that, and SP2 installed perfectly without the need for that file… seems like that was the cause of my troubles

there must not be anything else neither in both of the startup folders - the current user's and the all users's,
nor the Run registries, But the programs that you have installed yourself, or any program that yourself add it in.
often check these area, you have noticed it and that is a good thing. Glad it all sorted.

you can run msconfig to check startup item, i can't tell you that how often you should check..

i do not recommend to use msconfig IF you want to use it to disable one of the startup items permanently (by uncheck in the front of the 'startup item' on the tab 'startup') becos, by doing that you just added the msconfig.exe to the startup item. you don't want to start it at every boot.

i do recommend you to use a small program called "Startup Control Panel 2.8" - http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
D/L the Standalone EXE Version (34kb), you can use it for checking windows startup items ( in both startup folders and the Run registries, not included windows services ), disabling any startup program temporary or permanently, you can also reinstate all the change just don't delete the item.

System Configuration Utility overview
System Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe) automates the routine troubleshooting steps that Microsoft Product Support Services technicians use when diagnosing Windows configuration issues. You can use this tool to modify the system configuration through a process of elimination with check boxes, reducing the risk of typing errors.

reducing the risk of typing errors is about the BOOT.INI tab, or writing a script to do an automated task that can be done within the msconfig..
