XP SP2 Is Possessed - Won't Shutdown......... Argh

Hey Guys...

Yes, I couldn't wait until all the bugs were worked out. Now that is out of the way, I build a rig from scrach with the following main components:

AMD64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Mobo (nforce3 ultra)
2 sticks of Crucial Ballistics (PC4000) - 1 GB total
x800 XT/PE

Now, I first installed XP SP1a with no issues. I am familiar with Stop messages, and it was running sweet. I decided to go for the gusto and download XP SP2. Once it installed, everything seemed normal. No major issues, but when I go to shut down, I get the dreaded BSOD, with the following stop message:

STOP: 0x0000007F, 0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

Now, again, everything was honky dory with XP SP1a. I am 99.44% sure that this stop message is related to some type of conflict that XPSP2 has with some of my apps, hardware, etc.

For reference, my hardware is fine. Run Memtest on sticks, no worries. Temps are all square. Nothing overclocked.

So, before I pull the plug on XPSP2, I wanted to see what you guys think. Let me know.

Sam

Yep, Norton Antivirus. Do you think that did it? If so, how can I correct?

System Specs

to install updates etc correctly you need to close every anti-virus program running. The installer normally warns you about it
