WinXP Safe Mode RefreshRate too high for LCD
I have a 17" Benq FP791 LCD which has a max refreshrate of 75Hz as does most LCD monitors. My problem is that I can't get into safe mode in winxp or vga mode without the monitor saying OUT OF RANGE. They both use 85hz..which is too high for my LCD. Luckily, I have a CRt i can use to plug in and change the refresh rate, but I am going away to college in a few days and I am not lugging the CRt with me. So how am I going to deal with this?? Any solutions?

Yeah i know that. I'm talking about when i uninstall the display driver to install an upgraded driver. After the reboot, i need to go into safe mode and use DriverCleaner to clean all of the files. But when I go into safe mode, the windows generic driver will be used since I would have already uninstalled using ATI Uninstall. This is when I run into problem with the generic refresh rate being too high for the LCD monitor.

when you boot into safe mode have you tried going into VGA mode as opposed to just safe mode?
also..what kind of video card do you have? as if you have sp1 or newer on an XP machine ati drivers come standard..so this problem shouldn't exist

Maybe Refresh Force ? (dunno if the program's settings load in Safe Mode though)
