Reinstalling Media Player 8 After Win XP SP2

Is there a way after I install SP2 to uninstall Media Player 9 and reinstall Media Player 8? The reason I ask is because with MP9, the overlay settings I apply via the Ati Control Panel don't stick. With MP8, they do.

try media player classic

but the only way I know of to uninstall WMP9 is to use XPLite
