i know that win3.11 never saw more than 64mb, but i do remember having many more programs open than could fit in 32mb... i could easily be wrong...

Bout 4 posts after your 3.11 reply, which I still agree with you on

Wasn't designed for 1.5G Celeron based machines

But worked well for the hardware we had back then. Read the last paragragh of that post carefully

Hmm I still miss DrDos 6 with netware lite, ran 365 days a year for 3 years, Server was a 286 with 40 meg HD, 1meg ram, & 28kps pace modem client was POS 086 with 640kram & 10meg HD & GEM was brilliant, Only issued ever had was hardware related (co-ax net cable getting damaged & LAN disappering)

I still have boxed copy of DrDos 5 with manuals(huge), just for memorys, may see if I can add to boot menu with XP & Mandrake just for a laugh

Cheers Mate
Interesting, remember that one, was pretty solid, for its time and period
(NO NEED FOR UBER TO REPLY ANY COMMENTS AT THIS POINT)

Didn't follow up on it much, as I neglected OS2, which reminded me more of a Motorola based OS, which I was trained on, being a hardware type of guy

Mandrake caught my eye "I'm a huge OLD SCHOOL ULTIMA FAN "
Don't have much time for it now, as far as games, Jedi Knight 2 is very good, played it last night, my last saved game was in Aug., to busy with music.

Now that I've caught your ear, would like your opinions on Mandrake, Linux, GNU/HURD OS
Always respect your opinion, louie louie !!

And by the way, this IS an OFF TOPIC forum
How did you and Sintax make out on your workaround ?????????

I viewed your last post, and thought to myself, he sounds more like a
" Sinister Midget with a Bottle of Tequila and a Salt shaker", as opposed to " A Mop and a Bucket" LOL

HEH, sounded like you were having fun

AnyHew, nice to hear from YA MATE !!
take care
Mandrake, Linux, GNU/HURD OS
would like your opinons on those !!
take care BUD

Now I know this is way out off topic... would you know how one can find in Europe EVMs for Motorola's DSPs... like the 563xx?

Cheers

mandrake, looks good so far haven't lot of opportunity to play with it yet, .net has my attention atm...One problem I have has my soundcard dosen't work under mandrake...but I'm being lazy haven't looked at the problem really yet, if i can't sort it in gui, I just revert to command line & play with scripts in linux, just like playing with .bat files in dos. It looks scary sometimes but its not, if that makes any sense One thing to mention haven't had one crash in linux, apart from landlord going thru power cable! Super stable

Dam snogged a coleague on friday, now caught a cold, could be embrassing tommorrow morning maybe I'll be a little sicker than normal tommorrow

Default Post Mr. Burns OS's and beyond

As a general statement, I started this thread as a Best Mr. Burn's OS, and expanded too a best OS, as well as best OS for time and period. Thats 3 topics, and Merry, Motorola based systems are not off topic at all. My personal favorite years ago.

All input and opinions are welcome
But Uber, personal slams too ones knowledge, will be replied too by me, personally

As I'm sure you've seen

Take care my friends,

I've heard that some people have been running NT 4 server since it was released - only shutdowns when these sp's have been installed.

I, myself, still recommend from "Mr Burns" only .NET Standard Server. It is stable.

Best i've used is 95..reason ? simple..it was the first in the revolutionair new windows interface made for home use. Haven't seen such a giant step in OS's since.

Taking todays knowledge into account..best i've used is ME, much much better than 98SE on a standard system. Got 98SE on at the moment and am not impressed by it. Think i'll either switch to ME again or start using XP as my main OS

XP looks promising, haven't done too much with it yet.

NT4 sucks..it's stable ?? I don't think so..NT only is stable if you fully comply with the HCL..a bit of the old apple trick..use the hardware we approve and it will work..NT is weak, not flexible, slow and therefore absolutely not suitable for home use.

Apple is legacy old shit..only still sold since the graphical industry thinks it's faster than a pc..day will come when Apple is gone totally..incompatible with pc's, slower, more expensive and less expandable.

Historically..MSX system was the best..ran games on 64K which were far superiour to pc games untill the Pentiums and V550's arrived..
Better dan C64 since MSX was a standard supplied by several manufacturers rather than only Commodore.

Even further back..well hard to say..the ZX-81 was pretty powerfull for a 1K low-budget machine.

Strange that PC's became the hardware of choice..machines were much more expensive and needed much more RAM, needed an OS disk instead of just putting the OS in ROM, needed a special monitor instead of a tv..and they were the weakest machines possible when comparing them to the C64, MSX, Amiga or MSX2 machines.
