were XP are the restore points saved...
Any body know? and can they be acessed?

I hate to turn them off becouse they have saved my arse once and a while..
I turned them off once or twice and regreted it...

I don't like the security implications though...

The System Restore points are stored in a folder called "System Volume Information" in each drive.. the same drive/partition that is being monitored.

Yup, by default those folders have security set to allow access only for the system itself but no user or even admin/owner. If one takes control over such a folder through the security tab (wich is not there when simple filesharing is enabled) and then proceed to delete the folder, it comes back automatically even if system restore is turned off. By no means a biggie but just another of those cute little "resistance is futile" messages that Microsoft like to send us.

just noticed that i've not answered all your questions yet, did not pay attention last time i read..
yes, they can be accessed
you can gain access to the System Volume Information folder by opening its properties then adding your login/user name and give Full Control permissions to the user.. but i think system will take back that permission from you after next reboots or so...

Does windows XP create a restore point after it's been installed... and System Checkpoints are basically created after major updates, right?
