Registry won't DIE?!

I have had fraps and now, ever since I reformatted it won't run well at all (can't even record higher than 3 frames) so I decided might be a messed up regisry and I found a folder called FRAPS2 which keeps on coming back no matter what.... The moment I delete it, it comes back!!!

Some help? Could this be the prob?

the folder or registry key MAY be related to the location of the program folder on the disk itself... deleteing it.. and then coming back and seeing it there is probably quite normal as it's still ON the hardrive and NTFS does a log.... keeps everything in working order... repairs missing or errors in the registry and ondisk if there is something conflicting...

However, this may be better suited in the windows area for registry related stuff...

If you want, (just say the word)... i move this thread to that forum with a redirect....

(as i know it's a mixed bag.. you want info on the registry... yet want Fraps working)

btw, have you tried playing with the location of the avi file that gets created.... played with the audio settings... (turn sound off).. or even tried halfing the resolution to increase preformance....

little more system specs would be nice...

Well if you don't mind Judas, moving it would be fine!!!

I have tried various settings and all but I still get horrible performance!!!

As for my specs, here ya go!

3ghz HT Northwood
2048 RAm DDr400
9800 pro with vga silencer stock
audigy 2 (not workin correctly at the moment fixin that)
7200 rpm drive (IDE)

What else do you guys need? Hope that helps (fraps was unistalled and that thing kept on coming back... Even after a reboot and all)

done

well you have a powerfull enough system to push fraps... however your hardrive may be the major cause..

It worked fine before the format... but since the format is hasn't preformed very well at all...

I recommend you make another post in the Tech forum with a title specifically ABOUT fraps.... this thread should get a responce about the registry fairly quickly....

It is possible... But the thing is I always had my hardrive in IDE and all... I jsut changed mobo (for the better) and well, on my old 875pbz mobo (dell) i would get great fraps speeds under sp1 and now, under my new mobo (asus p4c800e-deluxe) and all the same settings except sp2, I can't run the thing... Well I'll keep it for screenshots but it's a pity since I liked makin vids (posted both on this site)!!!

Anyways I'll do as you asked Judas and post a thread in the tech forum tomrrow cuz it's late here and I got school! Thx for your help!

you might be able to explain why the folder in the registry is reappearing.......

i'm not sure how it's what's going on... if the files on the hardrive were still present.. but you deleted the entire "folder" in the registry without deleteing it from the hardrive.... it would recreate itself... but if the files are gone.. why would it recreate in the registry again? (back possibly kicking in for some reason? )

i think the preformance issue is another problem... but atm... he asked about the registry.... I didn't think it belonged in the tech forum as it's windows related.....

Hmm, i'd say uninstall the program and then check and see if its drivers is still remaining in your system, remove all of its drivers and left over files may be needed... but why you want it to be removed..
still using this program?

in that case the question has already been answered...

uninstall the software, then remove the "fraps" registry and it won't come back.

additionally, or if you want to remove this program completely and won't use it anymore....
you can also backup then remove the leftover .dll file in \system32 folder,
also might want to remove a few entries in registry...
\Direct3D\MostRecentApplication\<program name>
\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu2\Programs\<program name>
