11 for me. I have any unneeded services disabled and no programs starting up. I used to have a few more, because of a kerio firewall, but I dumped it as I'm gonna assume I really don't need it (chances of me getting hacked and what not are slim) and I was sick of it asking me about programs installed.

IIRC, you could disable the program verification thingy in Kerio. |

Zelig, I did end up disablign after awhile, because it drove me beyond insanity, but I've been running without a firewall for quite sometime and nothing bad has happened. I'll get one again if I ever get hacked and get paranoid about it
, well that or when I upgrade to a S754 sys (the nf3-250gbs have a built in fire-wall). As for me knowing what services are needed and what are not, well many of the services have a description and I researched them to check for side effects or other thigns they were used for. Also, I like having a clean bare minimum OS and all I need is the OS basic functionality and the services for internet so once you only have those goals in mind that enables you to turn off most of them as it obvious to whether they're unneeded or not.

25 including (but incl. taksmgr, DC, IM & browser)... so it will be something like "only" 21

With my current config I have 31 processes running in the background. Right before I start gaming I use this little app called KillProcess to automatically shut down a list of them that I have setup and a few others (firewall) that won't close I do so on my own. Then... I game.
