Can't install Windows XP
So I'm trying to re-install my rig and I boot to the WinXP CD, when it gets to "Setup is inspecting your Hardware configuration" right before the blue screen loading drivers and such the system hangs on a blank black screen. I've tried clearing the BIOS, using the SATA controller using the PATA controller. The only new thing is my 6800GT, I don't know if thats causing some issues but my box is really due for a re-install and I can't get it to complete at all! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One of the first thing I do when installing new HW is resetting the plug&play bios, then with the use of P.magic floppy I format C: /U and do a cold restart.
Then (with the net cable unplugged) I install windowsXP Also did you check if the card is fully seated? |

I've been playing on it, and the system is running, had to use driver cleaner and uninstall the radeon drivers and whatnot. P.Magic=Partition Magic? I reset the BIOS also VIA jumper and by unplugging the battery as well. Kinda at a Loss here, and no no vsync out of range error.

Do you get a stop error? if so, could you post the number?
or check here: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm yourself if you wish. Yes PMagic = patition magic Yeh unpluggin the battery also works, only then you'd have to set the bios options to your system again.. |

I got no stope error messages, but grabbed the 6 Floopy Disk XP professional SP2 installer, used the debug version of NTdetect and it now appears to be installing, go figure....

yeah well I did something on that install that jacked up the AGP driver and had it not able to allocate resources, tried everything I could think of to fix it and wound up reinstalling again! had to use the floppies again too, rather annoying I don't know what's causing it, perhaps the 6800GT is too new for NTdetect? Very strange, the flopies I'm using are from aWindows site their the SP2 slipstream install floppies. Gonna replace the ntdetect.com in my CD with the debug version and see if that fixes it.

![]() Nothing overclocked at the time?? Did you do a cold restart and a format before Installing XP?. if not then the error would still be in the P&P bios, if it was a big enough error.. |
