Default Post dialling up on bootup

my setup has now taken to dialling up when I start. Saying I - or a program - has requested info or whatever from angelfire. I've checked for spyware to no avail, system seems clean. Any help would be appreciated...

It sounds like a program is trying to update. Check task manager & all your programs for 'Auto-update'. Angelfire, hmmm. Esp check SI Sandra & Bel Arc advisor, if you have them. Also might be a virus proggie looking to update.

Yeah, you really should keep your viris up to date so they don't have to update themselves like that...

clear out browser history, document history, and failing that, get registry detective and search for angelfire and delete any offending keys you run across.

I've tried all you've suggested, & the same thing keeps happening.
I had a search through the registry & the same(and only)reference to angelfire keeps reappearing no matter how many times it's deleted. Here's how it reads:
HKLM/Software/XTB:
(default) REG_SZ (value not set)
httpaddr REG_SZ http://www.angelfire.com/comics/mr_raistlin/jx1.gif
wintr REG_SZ 1440
can anyone make sense of this ?
Many thanks.
P.S. use that URL & you get a gif
