Ok, we have all be havin this thing with the windows startup delays but.... what i don't understand is if it's just my probleme is that my windows might be looking all good and ready within 10 secs but i can't use almost anything for like 2 minutes more... And it's so so annoying. I don't need anything that has to do with little progs cause i know it wont work, but please i need someone to help me with that, seriously. What i think is that it has to do with the internet... I have dsl and I don't have my onboard, from asus, network card active anymore just in case.... I use the realteck that I got with the dsl modem... So when i start my windows I can get in the hard disks and everything but i can't use the ie and things that have to do with the system like advanced options of my graphic card, mediaplayer and stuff like that for the first minutes till I hear the computer start loading and actually start afterwards. Its really wierd and I would apriciate whoever would help me solve my probleme... and its not a prog like antivirus or anything of the kind... I think I've checked everything even reinstalling the windows like 2-3 times a day but... NOTHING....

how long WIndows takes to load depends on a number of things, but the most common causes of the delay are the numbers of services and programs you have starting automatically. so my suggestion is try disabling your AV and software FW, don't let them starts with Windows, if you don't use/have these programs try disable the other programs, and see if this helps.
and the 2nd one could be caused by deceptive software that installs on your system. if i understand correctly you told us you have already check it, so let try the above first. |

When everything else has been addressed it may be a problem with Windows XP Pro and a DSL connection. I had this EXACT same issue for about a year before I got annoyed enough and found a fix.
... soooo do you have XP Pro and DSL?

Yes, Shinjikun it's exactly like that. Pro with broadband... What the heck did you do to get over that crap. I've been tortured. I've disabled almost everything from my registry and still the same. Like I said my pc starts extremely fast but everything that connects automatically with the internet like mediaplayer and ie or whatever stops responding and ca't be touched till my pc loads the internet files or whatever that might be. By the way NET what do you mean by fw and av. Thanx for trying to help me I apriciate it alot.

I think you have to assign a fixed IP to the NIC where the DSL modems connects. I have Win XP home in spanish so I dont know where exactly it is, but go to Network, select the NIC (ethernet card), go to TCP/IP protocol and give an IP such as 192.168.1.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 gate 192.168.1.1
In DNS set the IPs you ISP has given to you. That way your freeze time will disappear, I hope. |

Ok no worries! Hey you know what... I remember when I was in greece I had to disable the extra network device! but I've done it here from what I checked as well.... Its really weird.... Ill be looking for it till you guys ( smarter apparently for having notes....) help me out... I'm excited... YOu don;t know how it is not waiting for the computer to "get off" so that i can fully use it every time! i had my computer on for 3 months in a raw! just cause I hate rebooting it! Accually before last Christmass till last month... Except when I have to apdate drivers or whatever! That's why I always have my tower open with 12 fans and untiduster on the side!

Just Noticed!
You think so pepexe? Let me try really quick... but I think I cant do that cause I dont have a static IP... From what Ive read in my account.. anyways.. Ill be working and checking here at the same time... You people are good here! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!
It says that... ppp multilink framing is off.... and compression (none) ... in my connection status.. isn;t that something really bad or is it just me? Last edited by Davisorle; Sep 21, 2004 at 11:06 PM. Reason: just noticed! |

I dont have static IP neither. You are assigning a fixed IP locally. It is like a bridge between your PC and your DSL modem who has the real IP, that is used in internet.

The fix I used worked for me on both static and dynamic IP addresses.

The IP to be put in DNS, that info is provided by your ISP. I dont know if there is a way to figure it out, maybe in your ISP website? And the IP to be put in the "use this static ip..." you should get that info from that who give you the Modem. If you bought it, you have to look it up in the user manual. If your IPS gave it, you have to call them and ask for it. If you type in a web browser http://192.168.1.10 and you get a config page (maybe you need to log in there), thats the modem IP. Again, user and pass to config the modem should be in the user manual. |
