OK, so i have windows xp pro SP2, and when i try to switch from one user to the other, it does nothing, i cant shut down, i cant restart, i cant log off, nothing... the box comes up, but nothing happens when i try..
Now, it only happens when going from the other users account to mine, i have never not been able to switch from mine to theirs.. Secondly, it happens randomly, its not like a one switch, then cant switch back deal, it takes a few times going back and forth for it to happen.. Please help me out! It sucks having to restart my computer when stuff is running on my side! thanks alot! |

sounds like you have some services disabled on your account. try putting everything back on default and see if that clears it up

Yes, I have disabled a fair share, but only ones deemed "safe" well, according to what blkviper.com says
Any way I could track down which service is conflicting? other than simple trial and error? I do get a error all the time, but this is the only one..Unable to start a DCOM Server: {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541}. The error:"The system cannot find the file specified. "Happened while starting this command:C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe -Embedding Other than that, I dunno.. I guess i will have to tinker around stupid junk, hehe thanks for the reply bud |

check these two services Fast User Switching Compatibility and Terminal Services,
set the startup type of both services to Automatic and reboot your PC and see... if both services have already been set to Automatic, then check the below registry key/value on your registry. Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "AllowMultipleTSSessions"=dword:00000001 and make sure that its value data is set to 1. page file settings for system using fast user switching will need to be set larger than system without the fast user switching, when a user is not active, there will need to be space available in the page file to roll out his or her work, therefore, the page file will need to be larger. the size of the page file is depend on what kind of works the other user has, if there was not much works then the page file setting is just a side note so you know,
if the mentioned services have been disabled before, you 'might' have problem wiith the registry data within your registry. |

okay, go to this page http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
at line no.34 D/L the reg fix, and import it to your registry.. but be warned to backup your registry first (export the registry key) and see if this helps. |

OK.. I did that, and now, when i try to switch, it goes to the logon screen, and when i try to switch the user, it just kicks me back to the logon screen.. I have read of lots of people having this problem.. So, i am at a dead end again now
